Her pain management is great. Increasing the gabapentin dose and spacing it out 8 hours apart instead of 12 seemed to really help. But at this point her pain level seems to be very low. We’re going to continue the medication for this week and then switch to an as-needed basis.  She’s quite steady on 3 legs so we’re hoping to start short 5-minute walks next week.

Unfortunately 10/5 was the earliest they could get us in with the oncologist… I’d consider taking her somewhere else but we’ve been so happy with this hospital so far, so we’re going to wait and maybe if they have a cancellation sometime before then, squeeze her in.

Thank you for the info on the rehabilitation! We’re definitely going to look into that!

I'm really happy to read that you've gotten the medication dialed in, that's wonderful! Yeah every 8 hours seems to be right for most dogs. And from personal experience when I needed pain control after a motorcycle wreck, I know for sure there's no way I could have lasted 12 hours inbetween doses.

I totally understand why you'd want to stick with that clinic for the onco appointment. Make sure you're on their cancellation list, we'll keep our paws crossed that they do.

And yeah please take advantage of the rehab program! It will help you feel so much more confident about getting her back into an activity level that's safe and helpful.

Our onco appointment got moved up to next Thursday! We snuck in after they had a cancellation.  I’ll update again after that.

I got a Tripawds email today regarding CBD for dogs and that’s something we’ve been interested in looking into for her, on the recommendation of several people. I sent an email about signing her up for the studies they are doing. If there’s any other info on that I’d love to see it!

Booey started her chemotherapy yesterday. They’ve recommended 6 treatments each spaced 3 weeks apart. But we can stop at any time if we feel like it’s not right for her or if it’s not working. So far she’s doing great, but they said it can take 2-4 days for her to have any side effects. We have the nausea and diarrhea meds if she needs them. We’ll see how the weekend goes. She’s been such a brave and strong girl through all this.

Also I just found out we’re getting a Kaiserin Care Package for our sweet girl! We’re so excited and thankful 😊

Booey is SET! You are so right, you can stop treatment if you don't like how it's affecting her. Hopefully it will not, most dogs just get a little bit of an upset belly for a day or two but since your vet prepped you with the meds, IF it happens you can nip it in the bud quickly. We are sending TRIPAWD POWER your way!

And yep, we are so hoppy to grant a package to beautiful Booey! Stay tuned for more details about that. Hope you guys have a nice weekend.

Booey update: her white blood cell count  dropped this week. It had also decreased slightly last week. She is scheduled to have another dose of chemo on Thursday but our vet made it seem like they might want to skip it due to the blood test results. She’s been getting her weekly blood work at our regular vet and having them send it along to the oncologist. So I haven’t actually spoken to the onco yet, I’m guessing I’ll hear from them tomorrow.  Our vet told us to watch for decrease in appetite, vomiting or diarrhea as signs of infection due to the white blood cell decrease. She seems totally fine so far, but we’re keeping a close eye on her. I’ll update again after we talk to the oncologist.

Try not to panic, low WBCs happen all the time. Skipping the chemo is just a precaution until her body bounces back. She will get there! Glad she's eating and feeling good. Keep us posted!

Yep, ditto Jerry.  Low wbc is not unusual at all.     And skipping a dose as a result  is not unusual.  Good feedback from the Onco to delay a session.  And, hopefully  not the case, but sometimes  a  delay  a second time if count doesn't rebound like it should can happen.  Yoir Onco is going cautious  and that's  a good thing.

And all indications are Booey is doing just fine!!

Hugs  and extra smooches to Booey for us😊

We had our scheduled onco appointment yesterday. They did more blood work and her WBC had totally bounced back to normal! So she was able to have her second chemo treatment. She seems a little more lethargic today than after her first treatment. She was reluctant to eat her dinner tonight as well, so we’ll be monitoring that this weekend, maybe try giving her some of the nausea meds if she doesn’t want to eat breakfast in the morning. Other than that… all is good. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

YAAAAY FOR BOOEY!!   Sorry about not feeling quite so chipper, but that happens some.  Glad the Vet gave you the nausea  medicine (Cerinia) to help her tummy.   Sometimes an appetite  stimulant is needed, but hopefully  the Cerenia does the trick of needed.

Thanks for the pupdate.  Gave us a ll reason  to smile today😊

We took Booey for her third chemo dose this Thursday. They x-rayed her chest and unfortunately she does have a small tumor in her lungs. Basically, the chemo they were giving her (Carboplatin) wasn’t doing anything. So we’re going to try switching her to Adriamycin which is another intravenous chemo medication. The onco also mentioned an oral chemo pill that is administered at home but recommended trying the IV first, as she’s seen better results with that one.

So far no side effects. She ate enthusiastically today and seems to be feeling ok.

We’re staying positive and hoping for better news at our next visit.

Bummer about that pesty tumor. Clearly Booey is feeling fine and completely  oblivious  to  what any ole' xray showed.  Ahhhh....the bliss of being dog!

We'll keep peas crossed for it staying stable, or even disappears!!  And just so you jnow, manh dogs have had a great le great  extended  quality  life even with mets.  Jerry was one of them!

So absolutely  stay pawsitive!  You have every reason to hope for continued good times and for  lots of happy memories to  e made every single day!   Continue to Be More Dog
