Well, its been 5 days since Tux has had his front leg amputated and by now our house has been rearranged to tripawds status.  The coffee table has moved against the wall and since we have wood floors there are carpet runners everywhere.  Tux has a nice setup in the middle of the living room with 3 different dog beds, new water and food bowel, and a couple of chew treats.  Yesterday, he started moving around on his own.  His first independent move was to get himself from the dog bed to the couch in one not so graceful leap (I think he wanted to sit by the rest of us).  I was scared to death but we let him do it and you could tell he was so proud.  Last night, we watched him stand up on the couch, turn around, and lay on his other side which he hasn't done since surgery (Again, another scary moment for me).  He has also taken it upon himself to take short walks around the area rug to find new spots to lay.  We are so proud of him and how far he has come in only 5 days.  On Tuesday we will have to leave him home alone for the first time since his surgery.  We are a little nervous but know he will do fine.  Is there anything we should do to make sure he stays safe when we are away? Thanks to everyone for all the support and advice we have received over the last couple of days.  Its been tough but we take each day as it comes and celebrate every accomplishment Tux makes.

Thanks for the update! Sounds like all is going well. Don't worry about leaving tux on his own. He'll probably be happy to not have so much nervous energy around! Wink

We're proud of tux too, and we're also proud of you. Keep up the good work.

Dearest Sarah & Tux,

My goodness! So many milestones in such a few short days!  It sounds like Tux is going to be hopping along in no time.  He seems to know what his limitations are, so I wouldn't worry too much about Tuesday.  I'm sure he'll be very happy to see you when you get home, though.  You are doing an amazing job of letting him find what feels comfy to him.  Congratulations to you and to Tux!
