We have now survived 8 weeks since K's passing due to osteosarcoma. They've been a tough 8 wks but we were starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We rescued a 9 month old Lab who had spent her entire life in a crate just 2 wks ago. She (Shyla) is loving and has an amazing attitude.
Then, the hammer seemed to fall. Our older lab, Rono, a 4 yr old, lost his appetite. It didn't come right back so he had tests. Those tests are pointing toward hemangiosarcoma because a large number of his red blood cells are damaged. An abdominal ultrasound was clear. Tomorrow, he gets an echocardiogram to look for a heart tumor. I am beseeching the universe to let him be okay.
If Rono is okay, we will dance a jig and keep on our healing path since the passing of K. We know that she's watching over us. We especially feel it as we are trying to guide our completely unsocialized but resilient new Lab into a world that she's never seen before. Can you imagine what the world looks like to her?
Thanks to Tripawds for this supportive and wonderful community of dog lovers.
K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.
I hope from the bottom of my heart that Rono's echo comes through clear for you. I cannot imagine what you are feeling right now. It just isn't fair. I will be thinking about you and Rono and hoping and praying for good results.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
Oh no. We are praying for you that everything will be okay. I can't imagine what you are going through and NO ONE deserves this!
We rescued our lab, Abby, 4.5 years ago. We don't know much of her back story but she has always been so scared and cautious. Through all this cancer stuff, we found out she was shot sometime before we owned her. She has a whole bullet and fragments lodged in her chest! Doesn't affect her physically but, kinda makes sense why she is so afraid of fireworks, thunder and even camera flashes! She has come such a long way and it sounds like you too will change Shyla's life for the much better!
Good luck and prayers for Rono tomorrow. We will be thinking of you.
Sending and thinking our best thoughts your way about Rono.
All our Best

Jack Russell born in 2001. Mast cell cancer found Dec 2009 and right rear amputation. Five rounds of chemo done before all treatment stopped. Living life to the fullest!! Read my story at http://rizzo.tripawds.com
Oh you've got to be a nervous wreck right now. More pawsitive energy coming your way, we hope this is nothing serious.
Kudos to you for adopting Shyla, she is so lucky to have such a wonderful pack. As you might know, we adopted Wyatt Ray Dawg who came from a similar situation; he spent the first 8 months of his life tied up as a "guard dog" and had never been beyond someone's back yard. He's had a long road to travel but today he's a super duper dog. I know Shyla will be one too! We'd love to see some pics when you get a chance.
Keep us posted on Rono, we'll be thinking of you!

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
