Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
She is just stunning! She definitely looks like she is a happy dog, and stands proud like a solider.
So happy you got your baby home. As Paula said mostly rest. Brownie mostly slept the first two weeks. He did eat, but I had to get sneeky. Sometimes i would add sardines for a stinky smell. I would also heat his food up in the microwave for a stronger smell, and I even hand feed him. I would put his medication in his food, but Brownie caught on and would tip his bowl over. So now I use a spoon of cottage cheese with the medication and he takes it right off the spoon.
Let us know how she is doing. Ava is absolutely georgus!
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

Thanks for the help, I'm hoping I've figured it out...
Beautiful! FYI: Photobucket will prevent sharing of photos on third party sites like this for free account holders. Only paid accounts are allowed to embed their images in forums and such – which could change at any time without notice, knowing Photobucket...

Thank you everyone, she's a really happy dog even going through all this she's been wagging her tail every time she's got up. Which is probably the main thing I've been struggling with. I know she needs to rest as much as possible but I don't think anyone told her that I'm trying to keep her calm and still but she keeps getting up lots.
No problem at all with her appetite, she was even eating last night at the vets but then she's always loved her food.
She's got a bit of a fluid collection at the bottom of the wound, the vet mentioned it when I picked her up and said it'd probably get a bit bigger but to let them know if I was worried or if it was leaking. So I guess I'll just keep an eye for now.
It's so good she is eating! I know some have used brain games to keep their dog occupied while recovering. I know you have your hands
full, but don't forget to post some more pictures!

SHE LOOKS SOOOO GOOD!
As others have said sometimes recovery has its ups and downs, and you may need to adjust her pain meds. I was fortunate that Brownie had no complications during recovery besides being stubbrand. It did take him about three weeks to get his personality back.
I believe Ava is going to inspire you more and more each day!. Brownie continues to inspire me.
When you have time, I know you have your hands full, you should start a blog to document Ava's story. Show others how large senior dogs rock! She still looks like a proud solider!

she so doesnt look like she's 11 years old! When nitro was 11, he had gray in his muzzle....which I loved because my other 2 Dobes each died at age 6
Paula
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
"Be good, mama loves you".....run free my beautiful Warrior
Wow, she looks pawsitively fantastic! She is really a beauty, and does not look near her age😊
I don't remember seeing what meds she came home with. She's going to have hospital meds in her system for roughly 3-5 days post surgery. pain management is really important now because once those hospital meds wear off you may see a change in her comfort level. Keeping her medicated on as regular a schedule that you can manage will be a big help to her later on.
If you have Instagram, photos from there can be easier to keep from being erased here. Photobucket has a history of removing photos from free accounts which can be a royal pita to fix after you have posted several.
Wishing y'all a peaceful uneventful evening.

...photobucket so I'll add them from there for now rather than setting up a new account. I'll sort out a different hosting site...

I agree Paula! Brownie has gray in his muzzle and I noticed he has a little gray between his toes. I think Brownies muzzle gives his age away.
And no, Ava does not look like she is almost 11......

She does look so much younger! WOW! I wish my hair was as solid black as it used to be. I'm jealous of you Ava! 😉
Please do post the photos in your blog so we can share them with others, without the Photobucket watermark. She's too beautiful to be hidden behind their logo.

Yeah, I agree....a very young looking gal! Are you sure she isn't sneaking in some hair dye when you aren't looking😉

Thank you, she's pretty good for her age, she's got a few greys but they're not that noticeable. Her mum passed away very recently at nearly 14 so I think she's got good genes and a young heart
I'll definitely look into setting up a blog, I'd love to be able to help others the way everyone here has helped us.
Today started off really well, she was up and I felt really good about things but then she had a bit of a stumble and landed on her wound. Luckily it was onto her bed so it was soft but she yelped which I've never heard her do so it must have really hurt her and then I got upset at seeing her struggle with things that used to be so easy and doubted my decision for the first time but we had a big cuddle and we're both ok again.
I know how early it is and I'm probably worrying about this way too soon but her front leg seems to give way on her at times rather than her stumbling because she loses her balance. It's like it struggles to hold her weight. Is that normal this early on?
