Hooray for the good news!!! It really works when you get the Tripawds Team sending good thoughts! It worked for us!

Enjoy your medicinal naps, Sammy!

Sending hugs and healing Abby kisses,
Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Scared the dickens out of me!  But I'm glad I came in late!  What a relief!!  Neck issues really suck but thank goodness it's neck issues!  Yay for Dr. Pam!

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Once again we find ourselves in the odd position of being happy for an injury!!  We get to be happy (and hugely relieved) that it's not the nasty 'C' and it is fixable.

Yea Sammy! Happy, trippy dreams!

And quit scaring your Mom.

smileysmileysmileysmileysmiley So happy that Sammy's feeling better! Hope he has a speedy recovery! I know it will require some maintenance, but it sounds like he'll be alright. Wooohooo!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

We both zonked out at 6:00 last night, (I get up at 3:30 am anyway, so 6:30 is probably a smart move)  and slept through the night.  The muscle relaxers and pain killers have done their magic for Sammy, but he has to remain quiet and still for several more days.  He cried a couple of times but after potty breaks he was back to snoozing.

I have one of those microwaveable hot packs, so he got a massage and hot pack on his neck before bed, boy was he looking relaxed 🙂

Thanks guys, your advice was spot on.  I had given him one of his old pain pills in the heat of things maximutt, and worried that was the wrong thing to do, so reading your advice made me feel better.

After everything, this morning he was banging his tail against the wall like a set of tribal drums when he heard my alarm go off and me wandering down the hall.

I love that sound more than anything!

Hope everyone has a tail banging day 🙂

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Elizabeth,

I just read your post after being out of town for a few days and initially I must say my heart sank. I'm so glad that Sammy is doing better and that Dr. Pam didn't find any cancer. That's great news. Give Sammy a big hug 🙂

Thinking about you guys.

Hope Sammy continues to do well. We have recently been dealing with back pain in our Dane. He is 10 months post amp. He has a lot of crepitus in his lower back and remaining back leg. We have done acupuncture several times and he was so tight from his mid to lower back that he cried out when she put the needles in- he has never done that before! We used muscle relaxers and an increase in frequency of gabapentin to get him through this crisis. He is still weak in the back. We added in prednisone daily for a week and then backed off to every other day. He is maintained on 20 mg every other day. Zane has wobblers syndrome so his back is more delicate than the average dog's. Daily tui-na style massage and working on distinct acupressure points seems to help too.

Hi Elizabeth,  I'm so glad Sammy's ok.  I've been out of town for several weeks and have not had a chance to log on.  I was worried when I saw the subject line, but am glad it was a false alarm!
