Talked to the vet today and we got the results from the blood test.  We should have gotten the results sooner but someone dropped the ball on their end, and I had to call them today.  Everything looked great so the chemo is not messing with her white blood cell count.  That was a relief.  The next session is next Thursday, so at least she gets a break from having to go to the vets office.

Cadence is doing great.  I would say she is about 95% back to her old self.  We have started  to increase her walks which in my opinion has really helped.  She loves being outside and she is getting so much attention from everyone on our walks.  On a few of the walks she stops and takes a break, which is good for me, because  she moves so darn fast now.  She is walking way faster now than she did before.  Maybe it has something to do with momentum.  We are in no way walking the distance we did before but considering its only been a little over 3 weeks since her surgery, I am very happy with how she is doing.  If there is one thing I have learned from this whole experience is patience.  Things will come in time just like everyone said.  They do adjust and they make the best of it.  We are just so happy that she is her old self and happy.  This Thanksgiving we have a lot to be thankful for.

Thanks to everyone who works so hard on this site so that we can have support and guidance during our journey.  Wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Odd, but true, that tripawds often move faster than their four-legged counterparts. It does have to do with momentum — Sammy tired pretty fast when he hopped — but, boy, could he run. He still outran and out-swam other dogs. Our "walks" became jogs and I think that was good for both of us.

Good luck with chemo. We were lucky and Sammy sailed right through it. His only symptom was a little tiredness the day of the procedure.

We are all rooting for you. Cadence is a lucky doggie to have such loving pawrents.

Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.

We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.

Front leg amps definitely walk faster. I used to have to really hustle and borderline jog to keep up with our Abby when she was on leash. Luckily we have a huge off leash beach near our house, so I would take her there a lot. Easier on both of us!

Good luck with the chemo!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
