Hi Kerren, Thanks for weighing in re: the massages etc. I have been rubbing his neck and back a bit - he seems to enjoy it somewhat (but his affect is so flat that it's hard to tell these days). I think he's also super bored, on top of everything else. I think it's adorable to read how your kitty Mona loves her neck rubs 🙂sp_hearticon2I'll be looking into getting Dexter someplace for therapy.

I can't remember where I read or heard this but when I was dealing with Tani's mobility issues, including knuckling her feet, it was suggested that I massage her affected foot/feet and try and get her to push against my hand with her foot in the correct position.  The theory is that there is a bit of a disconnect between the brain and the foot and by manipulating the foot and getting her to push against my hand the brain/foot connection would get stronger.

I don't know if it worked or not, but it didn't hurt.  Except that Tani wasn't a Pug who liked to be touched or held so I could only do the massage and exercises when she was really sleepy and only a little at a time.  In Tani's case the knuckling was caused by a congenital brain injury so she was never going to be completely free of the knuckling but she lived to almost 15 years old and was walking pretty much up to the end.

So much good feedback, ditto is all I need to do!

I do like that your Vet was open to getting a second opinion right away.  And I do like that they didnt find anything  scary!

Try everything mentioned with all the replies.  I do know that, in addition  to kotty Mona doi g chiropractor,  that Dobie Nitro did it too.  As well as acupuncture  (I think anyway).

Smooch the muzzle for us!

Hi Karen, thanks for suggesting the massage and "foot pressure" exercise. I will try - that said, Dexter has never enjoyed having his feet touched, so I'll see how far I can get. Based on the recommendations of a friend, I bought Dexter some CBD extract today. It's too early to know if this is helping - only one dose in - but I hope it helps.

Best,

Laura, Dexter, and Bella

Hi Sally, thanks as always for your kind replies and feedback. I like the idea of acupuncture - I've had it myself and found it really helped me following a neck injury. I just wish Dexter was not so stuck and was showing even the slightest improvement.

Hi everyone - as an update - I just got an appointment with a neurologist for Dexter. The weakness in his hind quarters is worse than ever. I am also trying CBD because I was told that this can work wonders. He's only had one dose, so it's too early to tell if it's working or not. I'll let you know what the vet tomorrow says.

On CBD I used Rover's Relief. If you have any questions at all on CBD you can call and the owner will call you back.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I deeply appreciate the support and carrying you all are sending! I have to leave soon for the vet but wanted to quickly answer the questions. No rehab appointment yet because he's not well enough for that. I'll ask the neurologist their thoughts on when he might be and also see if they can do acupuncture. Or recommend where I could get that for him. OK, gotta hit the road. More later.

Thank you! So I left him at the clinic - they will X-ray and perform an MRI. At least then we'll know what we are dealing with. I likely will be able to pick him up late afternoon. Hoping this is fixable!!!

Thanks for checking in! It's been a bit rough. We had the MRI and X-ray and they didn't really find much. Maybe some slightly bulged disks in his lower spine. I don't think this is what is causing the problem but who knows? Over the past couple of days he maybe has had some progress? It's gonna be a long road.
