Today is Roxy's one-week ampuversary, and she's doing great. The incision is healing nicely, and she's getting around well on her own. The problem is that she's definitely showing signs of pain in her remaining back bowed leg. I know it will take time for her to get stronger, but I don't think she'll ever be able to go on a long walk.
So, I've been checking out wheelchairs and am leaning toward the Walkin' Wheels wheelchair . Does anyone have one who can give me an honest review? I don't want to wait for a custom-built one.
Thanks,
Tiffany
Good to hear from you Tiffany and to knlow Roxy is doing well after surgery!
Yes, there are others who will chime in who have used various wheel chairs' strollers, etc. If you look on Angel Exchange, I think Teo/Chris offered one...not sure, but check that out.
I also kow Christine and Cora will chime in as she's had Cora use something similar. Strollers may be your best option. I klw several
eople here use them...their dogs walk a snort distance and when they've had enough, they hoo right i !!
Gosh, just one week ot of recovery, I'm sure Roxy may still be feeling some pain from tne major surgery. I guess it's hard to discern if the pain is from surgery and all the adjusting,or just isolated to that rear leg.
Many dogs, many many dogs, go on shortened walks....sit...roll...lounge around...inter-dispersed with little short walks. I think you're wise toprotect that back leg. You also will see more and more improvement too! SOOOOOO GLAD SHE'S DOING WELL!!
HAPPY ONE WEEK AMPUVERSARY ROXY!! And it only gets better!! Celebratng with ice cream, lots and lots of ice cream and cake!!
GREAT UPDATE!!
Hugs to all!

I'm so glad to hear she's doing well!
Before you resort to a wheelchair , be sure to read this article, "When and How a Dog Wheelchair Can Help a Tripawd."
If you haven't tried rehabilitation therapy yet, you definitely want to start doing it to help strengthen her core muscles and build strength (which walks alone won't do) so that she can eventually build more endurance and go on longer walks. While it won't guarantee that she will go on really long walks again (many dogs just don't), she will be strong enough to avoid injury and have a pain-free life. Our ebook, Loving Life on Three Legs, is all about how you can get there.
As for that specific wheelchair brand....I have been told that if you can get a customized wheelchair it's better for your dog than an off-the-shelf one like those are. Again though, you want to work with a rehab vet before attempting to put your dog in any chair; doing so can cause more injury and make things worse.
I hope this helps! Thanks for posting.

I can't really speak to the Walkin' Wheels products but I do have some experience with carts. When I worked at the sanctuary we had a puppy that needed a front wheel cart (his back legs were fine but he didn't use his front legs). I did a bunch of research and decided that his best option was a custom built one from Eddie's Wheels. It only took about two weeks or so to get the cart after we ordered it and the people at Eddie's were so nice and spent a lot of time on the phone with me discussing various options and issues. I haven't really used any others carts but I have handled some (not a Walkin' Wheels) and the Eddie's cart felt much sturdier and they were able to make some custom adjustments and attachments for Alfie's specific needs. From a cost perspective, there wasn't a huge difference and for the quality we got, it was definitely worth the wait in my opinion. I really can't say enough about the amazing people at Eddie's.
Cora's Mom Christine recently posted about Cora's cart outings, with video of Cora in her new Eddie's cart (very similar to Alfie's). http://tripawds.....ooooooo/ I posted a couple of videos of Alfie on that thread at the very end, too.
