Angas is now four weeks post amputation.  We are slowly building up his fitness and strengthening his left hind leg with short walks.  We would like to in the future to do longer walks, but we know Angas would not make the distance.  We have searched the internet for a pram that we could use for Angas to help him out.  None of the prams are big enough in length and height for him to lay or sit in there comfortably.  Would anybody have any suggestions of where we could start looking or if they have made something themselves to suit a larger dog.  Help would be appreciated as this will help greatly as our weekends were spent taking our dogs on day out excursions.

Hi Angas & family!

Oh we know how that goes and we do have some pram ideas for you (or "strollers" as they're called in the U.S.).

Our Tripawds Gear Blog has a great selection of prams that you can see here.

Check out our friend Spirit Tasha from Arizona, who inherited this pram from Spirit Indi in Oregon, who got it from Angel Xena in Manhattan! As you can see, all of these gals were big dawgs who loved getting around town on wheels.

By the way, you may want to check out our Gear Blog's Fitness page for some tips about getting stronger. Remember that walking is an endurance exercise but it doesn't build strong core muscles, which is what Tripawds need most. Also see our CARE videos about strengthening and canine rehab.

Good luck! I'm sure you can get these prams in Australia. Let us know what you find.

Hi Angas

My golden retriever, Sophie, liked to go for long walks with our friend, her dog walker, during the day when I was at work. After Sophie's amputation, Angie - our dog walker friend, fashioned a Chariot out of an old bicycle cart for kids. You can check it out on my blog "Not Sophie's Choice" where there is a video showing Sophie enjoying a day out in the sunshine with her group of canine friends.

Not fancy - but practical.

"Going Dog" def: living every day in the moment

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

Your Chariot, is probably the way we will have to go.  We have looked at a stroller like the one shown on the webpage, and Angas is a very long dog and I dont think he would be comfortable lying in it as he would be cramped and sitting he is too tall.  So looking at your chariot we are going to give it a go at making our own.  And improve on it as we go along.

Thanks Tana
