Anyone have experience with these booties? I recieved my order today and my poor guy munched it at least 10 times. Will it take some time for him to get used to them? I was watching him and it seemed he would wipe out on rocks and soft dirt/sand...I dont want to have his confidence decline. Thanks
I had never heard of these boots and so googled them. Out of 18 reviews the general agreement was that they are very well made and the company is great to deal with; however, whether they fit and stay on seems to depend entirely on the size and shape/breed of one's dog. Daisy, 12 years young, had left forelimb amp on 5/19/2010 due to osteosarcoma. She left her body behind and joined the other spirit tripawds on 7/16/2010.

Lexi, here's what we said about boots in the review:
Our experience has been that booties help Tripawds who are willing to get used to them.
Some dogs easily adapt after just a couple of short sessions wearing them, but some hate them forever and will do whatever it takes to get them off their feet. Some dogs have feet just the right size for them, and other paws are impawsible to fit.
Sungam, I'm sorry he's having problems with them. Here are some things to consider:
Are they the right size? Even if they're off by 1/4" inch they'll be too big.
Are the straps tight enough?
How is his mobility? Was he getting around fine before he started wearing them? Is his balance OK to begin with? If not, boots may be a problem for him.

He was doing fine before the boots, he got along like he wasnt even missing a leg. The boots fit him snug and they dont fall off. For the first 20 min around the house he was dancing around like a nut, but he hasn't tried to take them off. The reason I got them was because around here there is tons of hot sand and goathead stickers. So I figured I get him some booties to take care of his remaining paws.
When I took him for his routine walk it looked like he was getting used to them, but as soon as we hit the sand trails he was muching it hard, face first. Although, I did notice that when he got back from surgery on walks he will drag his left hindleg every other hop; he is a front limb amputee.
Would it be possible to return them after a week or so, if he can't make the adjustment?
He is loving his harness by the way; he gets mad when I take it off.
Hey Sungam, it's good to hear that his mobility is great!
So it's the sand that is tripping him up? How does he walk on the sand without them? Poor pup! Watching those stumbles is so hard, I know the feeling.
Try not to turn them into a bad experience. Ruff Wear will allow returns but with items that have been worn they may deduct a percentage of the return credit based on how worn the item is. Keep me posted and I'll check on that for you if/before you send them back.
Glad he digs the harness! I'll bet he looks spiffy wearing it!
Oh, one more thing to consider, Pawz Dog Boots are pretty cool and because they don't have a thick sole on them they don't impair mobility. They can be used on all kinds of surfaces. Stay tuned, we're publishing our review of them later this week.

He does fine on the sand without them, I can just tell that it is too hot for him. So, I re-measured his paws about 8x, and he is right in between 2.25 and 2.50; would it be better to return them for the smaller size? If so, will Ruffwear do the exchange?

Ruff Wear says: "Important: A snug fit is necessary to keep boots securely on paw."
Did you follow their sizing instructions?
Measuring Paw Width
- Have your dog stand on a hard surface.
- Place a piece of blank paper under paw.
- Lift the opposing paw so that dog's weight is distributed firmly on the paw being measured. (We suggest measuring both front and back paws.)
- Mark the paper at the paw's widest point on the left and right edges of the paw (see graphic).
- Use a ruler to measure the distance from the left mark to the right mark.
- Use the sizing chart to determine the proper boot size.
