Thank you in advance for your opinions. I really need to break down and purchase a ramp. I ideally, would like it to serve several functions. I need one I can use in my 4 door Honda car, a pickup, possibly an SUV, if I rent one while on vacation, and in the future, a ramp for my 3 steps going off my porch. The vehicle thing is the biggest right now. I actually tried to rig a ramp(long story) out of the side of a wooden shipping box. Looked real nice, but won't go in the opening of my back car door. That seems to be the trouble with a lot of the ramps. Also, what is anybody's opinion of taking a 12 year old larger pup with Arthritis on a vacation that includes a 9 hour drive? I can't stand the way Chandler looks when we go away. I also don't want to harm him by being selfish and wanting him with me. I would definitely have something better in place to get him in and out of car than I do now. He has gone with us before, although not the last 2 years. I know, I am rambling, I just get great advice here. Thanks, Lori, Ty& Gang
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Well of course you HAVE to take Chandler with you. I had to laugh that you are even considering otherwise while remembering how he ended up at the tripawd party. He is just the cutest. We don't want Chandler to be sad, besides it's not selfish if he WANTS to be with you 🙂
I don't know anything about ramps, but I do love Chandler and I'm all for anything that makes him happy!

Of course he has to go!!!! LOL ... I don't know anything about ramps either but I am sure someone will weigh in... but you can't leave him behind! Vacations are better with dogs! Is Lucy going too?
XOXO

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
No, I have a very trusted friend keeping her at our home. She does NOT always know where to go pee and I can't trust her not to pee all over the carpets there. She would have to be in her crate ALOT and I don't think she would like it. She is a lot less emotional about me leaving than Chan. Of course hubby plans to take DARYL. Makes me feel a bit guilty about Lucy, but don't know what else to do. Don't want to be paying for all new carpets.

Oh if Lucy has pee pee issues .. and she's happier at home ... then that's probably the best place for her! Lucy needs to keep watch of your casa! I get that.
There was never a doubt that Daryl was going ... 🙂 I hope you're going someplace fun! Jasper and I are headed north this summer ... her longest trip but thankfully no peeing issues in my car. Just resting bitch face! I can handle that!

You are not rambling silly girl! We get it!
This Lucy girl will probably enjoy having the house to herself with your friend. Divas are like that!
Check out our gear blogs...pretty sure we have ramps there. Also. Petsmart, Petco have some. They extend and they are different lengths and different widths. Ask the retailer if you can return it if it doesn't work for your vehicle or if Chandler won't use it.
Yeah, I'm thinking Chan wants to be with you too! He certainly enjoyed his "adventure vacation" to the Tripawds Pawty...and we enjoyed he and Daryl so much!! The drive with several short breaks where he can walk a bit and loosen up shouldn't bother him too much.
So where are you headed and for how long? You know we have to have pictures! And this is Daryl's first vacation, right?? Gonna be fun!
Love to you and all!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Lori I think it would be great to take Chan with you, he'd probably really really love that. Just watch how much activity he has when you're on vacation. Where ya going?
As for the ramps, well, is there any way you can borrow one from a friend to see if your pups will even use it? Many dogs will not, and I suspect that this country has a lot of ramps sitting in garages. Here is a post about ramps that may help you if you try it.

We have one of the folding type ramps and Ellie is definitely one of those who won't use it. So I bought a folding wedge tumble mat that was on a Lightening Deal at Amazon. At first I thought it was a total waste of money, but Ellie does use it willingly. It is wide (30" or so) and soft. I think it is the width that makes the difference. It doesn't quite come up to the bumper of the CR-V but she can hop the last little bit. The main issue is that it takes up a lot of room even when folded. We only use it going to/from the vet.

Active 10+ Pyr mix suddenly came up lame with ACL tear in left rear leg. Scheduled for a TPLO but final pre-op x-rays indicated a small suspicious area, possibly OSA, which could have caused the ACL tear. Surgeon opened the knee for TPLO but found soft bone. Biopsy came back positive for OSA. Became a Tripawd 9/18/14. Carbo6 with Cerenia and Fluids. Pain free and living in the moment. Crossed the Bridge on 7/12/15 after probable spread of cancer to her cervical spine. A whole lifetime of memories squeezed into 10 months. Here's her story: Eloise
