Hi everyone.
it's been a while since I last posted on here. Ava is doing great. It's been eight months since her amputation. Last month we moved into a new apartment and she was slipping and sliding on our new floors and her hips sprayed out hard and fast. Her symptoms: we noticed that she was having a difficult time getting into a sit position, was shivering in pain, back legs shaking, not wanting to jump on the bed, not wanting to load back legs, tripping on the front paw (her front right leg was amputated). The vet said she injured/pulled her groin. to treat this, we done two chiropractic adjustments, an anti-inflammatory, and some red light therapy. It's been four weeks and she's not really making any progress. Has anyone experienced this? Any recommendations? What treatment has worked?
Hi Jennifer,
I'm glad to hear Ava is doing great otherwise! Eight months is pretty cool!
You did the right thing by having your vet look at her. Have you spoken with the vet recently, about her lack of progress?
Our Wyatt pulled his iliopsoas muscle once, which is what it sounds like Ava is struggling with. That's not uncommon for Tripawds.
I can't recall, has Ava seen a rehab therapist before? While those treatments can help, it does sound like she needs to be re-evaluated and treatments adjusted. If your vet is not a credentialed therapist, please look into seeing one. We can help you find one for her too.
Also, she may need a different pain management approach too. That's also not uncommon. Methocarbomol is a muscle relaxer that our Wyatt Ray was prescribed and it helped a lot. He also took Amantadine at night.
Talk to your vet and see what can be done about trying to bring that pain under control. Then look into a different rehab therapy program (shockwave therapy may also be helpful, and acupuncture). Please let us know how she's doing.
