Our wonderful "Mija," a Golden Retriever mix, has been a tripawd for 10 years. Following recent episodes of lameness, a total hip replacement has been recommended by an orthopedic specialist for the severe hip dysplasia in her remaining hind leg. We realize that it is a big decision to put her thru the surgery and extended recovery/rehab. Has anyone had experience with such surgeries and the postop care? We would truly appreciate any input as we consider this option vs. pain management and limited mobility. Thanks in advance!!
Hi Judie! It was great talking to you this morning, thank you for joining us here in the community!
You have given Mija such incredible care all these years, with more to come!
I'll share that link to articles I emailed, about three legged dogs who have had remaining leg surgeries:

I forgot to ask, did a rehab therapist evaluate her as well as the surgeon? They can take very different approaches in these situations.
Getting that extra opinion at Ohio State is super smart. When is the big day? I think you told me on the phone but I forget.
The biggest thing we've learned from talking to surgeons like Dr. Marcellin-Little, is that adhering to the rehab program after surgery is essential. So having a good team is really important. You mentioned Mija had been seen by a therapist before, right? Will that same team be part of her recovery care? Or would you do it at Ohio State if you went that route?
Lots of questions!
