Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I posted. Things have been going well with Storm since the last post when we decided to stop all treatment as it wasn't having any effect and concentrate on his hydrotherapy and mobility.

Then the other day I noticed that his wee was dark and I could swear that it had a pink tinge. The oncologist drew some urine directly from his bladder for testing. This showed no infection (which would have been the best result) so an ultrasound followed to reveal a tumour on his kidney crying

Apart from removing the kidney, which isn't an option for me especially seeing as he has lung mets too, there isn't anything that the vet can do. He isn't in pain (I questioned the vet long and hard on that one) and hasn't got any signs except for the blood in his wee so the decision is to carry on as we have been giving him love, food and good walks until the lung mets or kidney tumour become painful or life inhibiting.

Sometimes life just isn't fair crying

So sorry to hear this news.  But all you can do is continue to live life to the fullest for so long as he is with you.  Will be thinking about you both.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Dang I'm so sorry! Cancer is just so dang unpredictable. I know it's not much comfort about now but at least you caught it -- kudos to you for being so observant. At least you know what you're dealing with and you can be there for him, should symptoms arise. In the meantime, you've got the right attitude: make every moment count and love him up. Give him extra kisses from all of us, we're cheering you on for many good days ahead. xoxo

So sorry to hear this.  Sending best thoughts for him to continue feeling good.

Lisa, Minneapolis

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

Piece of crap disease. Brutal and unforgiving.

But Storm is showing everyone what a brave Warrior he is! He does not let any ole diagnosis bother him...never has, never will. Storm just keeps on rockin ' on soaking up all that loving and spoiling!!

You know you have to post some more pictures, right? He's such a good looking young man!

It's wonderful to jear that he's feeling good and just getting on with living life to the fullest. Did you ask the vet about any supplements thst may help?

Stay connected and thanks for the update. We love Storm and we'll all be cheering for him!

(((((hugs)))))) lots of them!!!

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Thanks everyone. Storm is living his life as he does best, enjoying every moment. His appetite is unfortunately quite poor and every day is a challenge to find something that he will eat but he still insists on going for a walk though they are only for 15 minutes at a time now. He's loving his swimming and spending time with his girls (we have 4 other hounds).

He is 10 months post amputation so has had lots of quality of life since he was diagnosed. We will make sure that he enjoys what he has left which we hope will be a long time.

First of all, HAPPY TEN MINTH AMPUVERSARY STORM!!!''' Or in human years, Happy Seven Year Ampuversary! I know you are cramming so much loving and spoiling and fun in every single moment...aWays have, always will 🙂

You are such aa smart pup to let yiur humans know when you are ready to come in after your walk.

Maybe the vet could prescribe an aappetite stimulant? Also, maybe prednisone? It would help if there is any inflammation because of the tumor and it usually increases appetite. May not be a good idea...just throwing it out there.

You're doing an EXCELLENT job of staying in the moment and making every day STORM DAY!! We're cheering for you!

Lots of love

Sorry to hear about the latest twist to Storm's story....Sally suggested I share with you the kidney supplements that Nitro is taking. His holestic vet told us about Renafood - which isn't a food, but a supplement that helps with kidney support; in fact someone close to her that has kidney cancer also takes it. The company that makes it is called "Standard Process", maybe you could find it online. Nitro had kidney dysfunction - he wasn't in full-blown kidney failure, but they weren't working to full capacity. His lab values were somewhat high, and his urine was extremely dilute. He was drinking water obsessively (and of course, peeing obsessively) to try and clear the impurities out of his system since the kidneys weren't doing their job. Along with that he gets acupunture, so I can't definitively say the supplements are the sole reason his kidney function has improved. But if you could find this, it might be worth a shot. He weighs 75 lbs, and takes 2 tablets, twice a day. Good luck, give Storm a hug from us.

Paula and Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
