Thanks for all the info. I looked at the harness site and wondered if it is adaptable to a sled rather than the traces of a cart. Will have to do some more investigation. I think I'll check out some sled dog sites, too. There are several people in this general area who do sled dog racing, so there may be something I can look into that's close by.
We did stretch the distance between the Cavaletti "bars" tonight. He has to raise the leg higher when they are further apart. He doesn't even require a treat (or a leash) to do the bars. Garry just tells him to do his Cavaletti.
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
PS. Garry has decided that Cavaletti is an Itallian word for yard implements.

I believe the carts from that website have adaptable metal runners to convert from rolling cart to sliding sled. So awesome that you have sled dog racing in your area! I don't think Jersey has anything like that!
Our tripawd is Meeko. Four and a half year old male Leonberger. Certified therapy dog with his CGC. Diagnosed with grade 1 chondrosarcoma 9-16-12. Right rear leg amputated 10-1-12. We also had Casper who was an 8 year old Great Pyrenees diagnosed with osteosarcoma. We sent him to the Rainbow Bridge 10-29-11.
You gals are cracking me up!
I would looooove to hear more about Meeko's cart pulling activities. Care to write a guest blog post about it? If so PM me for details.

We talked to Murphy's rehab vet this morning and have decided to order a sled dog harness. She will take a look at it and decide if it will be suitable for pulling his sled. If not, we can always send it back. For the time being, she said that running him up the hill will be comparable to pulling.
He did very well on his exercises yesterday. Today will bring another set. Running the hill will probably happen on most days, though, just because it is part of our regular routine now. I will have to bring the camera along to try to get some video of him working. He is also doing well running through the stubble field at the end of our street.

We do have sled dog racing in NJ, I know there's someone in barnegat who runs their huskies and is on a team! http://njsdc.co...../main.html
Maverick is a wonderful miniature australian shepard born with a malformation of the front right radius/ulna, amputation performed on 11/4/13 at 6 months old. Follow his story at mavericksjourney.tripawds.com.
All this talk about sled dogs brings up some very fond memories...

Wow! Talk about living the life to the fullest! BEAUTIFUL VIDEO of the true "spirit of dog" shining through!
Rene, I love how Jerry was standing to the side greeting the sled dogs as tey returned...then saw you in the cart and made a bee-lie straight for you with tail wagging full on!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
That's great what you guys are doing for Murphy and wonderful bonding time too.
Meeko3Leonberger, Thank you for sharing the harness info.
They are called Siwash harnesses and its the harness Meeko wears for carting. More info can be found here: http://www.wilc.....nesses.php
I want to get something for my husky to be able to pull my other dogs stroller. All attached to me, of course. But my young husky needs a job. Also, just a side note, I have recently become in love with the Leonbergers. I keep thinking I'd like to get a Great Pyrenees someday, but then I came across the Leonberger breed and now it's a close call. Your Meeko is cute.
Karma, Adelaide and the crew, and our forever angel Brendol
Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury. Her amp was on 10/1/12. She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera. We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.
You can read their stories at http://adelaide.tripawds.com and http://brendol.tripawds.com
Well here's another activity to consider, canicross! As usual, Calpurnia and her people led the way!

You're welcome. I've had 2 male Great Pyrenees. My first lived till 9.5 years and my second one I lost at 8.5 years to osteo. Pyrs and Leos are both great breeds with the Leos being more involved in family life and easier to train.
I would give Bill Wilczek a call to discuss your needs. His phone number can be found on his website. He's a wonderful caring man and takes much time with each of his customers.
