Hi everyone,
I hope this is in the right section. We just rescued a 6 month old female pup izzabell (3 hours ago) who had her back leg amputated approximately 4 weeks ago. We know very little about amputees and are eager to pick up what we can from this wonderful site.
Our most pressing question is about her going to the bathroom. We keep taking her outside but haven't noticed her go to the bathroom yet. We're curious if she could be going to the bathroom when she appears to be sitting down? We're nervous she will pee and poop on herself every time we go to the bathroom. We're extremely concerned and probably working ourselves up over nothing, but we would appreciate any info or insight you more experienced folks could provide.

Congrats on the new addition! What kind of pup is Izzabell? How big is she?
First off- some pups are reluctant to potty in unfamiliar places- not at all uncommon. She may need some time (more than 3 hours) to go. My guess is that she will go when she really has to.
I've had two small rear amp Tripawds. My first, Maggie, was a little pug who lost her leg to cancer. When she squatted to pee she was almost on the ground. She had her butt up in the air a bit higher when she pooped. Once she recovered from the surgery she never had any issues doing her business, she was 7.5 years old when she had her surgery.
My current Tripawd is a little Pug mix who lost her leg to a car accident at 7 months old, she is almost 4 now. Elly still has a bit of a balance issue when she poops, she occasionally steps in it with her back foot. No issues peeing, but like Maggie her rear end is very close to the ground when she pees.
All Tripawds figure out a way to pee and poop, so Izzabell should be fine with it. My guess is that she is still a bit nervous in her new environment.

I totally agree with Karen, she is probably still taking in her new environment, you just gotta be a bit patient with your girl and give her time to adjust.
My baby was a huge Great Dane and I worried how she would pee and poop having lost a front leg but it turned out when she had to go she went, initially with my assistance due to her size.
You could consider getting a ruffwear harness , this is brilliant because it has a handle on top which allow us to hold our babies and guide them if need be and also getting them in and out of the car, up and down stairs, etc.

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)
