We spent last week at our cottage in Wisconsin.  Due to some law the only kind of fence we can erect on our property is split rail because it doesn't fence out the wildlife.  Split rail also doesn't fence in basset hounds.  So whenever we take the hounds out we put them on 25 foot leashes attached to the front corner of our deck.  Now that Maya is a tripawd we let her our without being on her leash since she doesn't go that far.  That is until one day last week.  The hounds were out sunning themselves and I was reading the news on my tablet while enjoying the fresh air.  My wife came out looked at Jethro and Lilly tied out and sunny themselves.  She then asks me "where's Maya?".  I respond "sunny herself on the grass".  Why wife looks around and says "where?".  Ruh-roh!  Where is my baby?  My wife walks down the driveway and looks up the road and there is Maya a block down the road and moving along at a decent pace.  We both called her and she ignored us and kept on walking.  My wife grabbed her regular leash and went and hooked her up to bring her home.  Evidently going home was not what she had in mine.  In her best tripawd fashion she collapsed on the ground letting out a big sigh.  (Maya has learned that all she has to do if she doesn't want to do something is to lay down.)  Only after promising her a cookie did she get up and walk back to our cottage.

HUGE...HUGE. GRIN ON MY FACE!!! laughingbig-grin Way to go Maya! Nothing is going to hold a determined Basset Hound back!! I just LOVE this ppst!!

Bet Jethro and Lily were ticked that they had to stay leashed while they watched Miss Maya prance down the block! She is such an inspiration for other "long and low to the ground" dogs who are faced with this journey! Such an amazing pup!

We MUST have video when you can...with Jethro and Lily too! Love Basset Hounds! I've beenowned by several over the years (Daphne, Eloise and Gorgeous).

Thanks for giving us all a smile today!

Hugs to all da' hounds! Extra treats too!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

You go Maya! Where is your cottage located? We live in Green Bay. I'm sure you were anxious when you discovered she was gone; but when your heartbeat returned to normal, were you secretly doing the happy dance that she could/wanted to do this by herself?

Carry on Maya!

Paula and Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

We're outside of Egg Harbor.

It was a shock that she went walking on her own.  She normally follows us around like a shadow.
