Hi all!

First time poster here. My little Beans is a Chihuahua who had a front leg amputation in April 2018. After a difficult recovery, she is a happy little girl who loves to play.

However, when she is sitting on her haunches, I do notice that her remaining front leg trembles as if it is weak, even though for the majority of her life she has only used that one to get around. It's like she is wobbling too much, or the leg is tired, I'm not really sure.

My concern is that she injures that leg. As a Chihuahua, she is small, only 9 pounds, but she still has balance issues, and it scares me that because she has such skinny, spindly legs that it is too much for the one that is left.

Has anyone had this trembling with their dog, too? Just looking for advice if it is possibly something we can correct with certain exercises that won't be too taxing on her leg.

Thanks!

Welcome! The best recommendation is to visit a certified canine rehab therapist for a professional evaluation, treatment recommendations and specific exercises you can do to keep her fit and strong, and prevent future injury. The therpist will be able to determine if the twitching is due to weakness, nerve mending, or the nervous twitching many toy breeds are known for. Regardless, they will able to prescribe the right course of action.

Visit a CCRT or CCRP and the Tripawds Foundation can even pay for your first visit from the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab.

Thank you so much! I'm very happy to have found this site, as I've been looking for resources for a long time.

I will have to do some research to find a CCRT or CCRP in the area we are moving to in a couple of weeks! Thank you for the information, I think a visit to one would do her a world of good. <3
