Hi there,
Our guy Erik had his rear leg amputated on Wednesday due to a feline fibrosarcoma on his paw.
He's been home since Friday, is on Metacam and is doing really well. Him and his brother are getting on fine - his brother still occasionally sniffs him as if he smells weird (Erik is still having problems grooming some areas, so we're trying to help), but they are happy to sleep near each other/swap food bowls etc.
We were told to keep them separate when we couldn't supervise at first - but I wondered how long should we keep them apart? We're out of the house for 8+ hours a day.

My cat Mona had a fibrosarcoma caused by a vaccine injection. When I brought her home I put her in a spare room with the door closed mainly to contain her. My male cat Eli was scratching at the door to come in (he hates being excluded) and when he came in he just sniffed her and then would just stand guard over her while she slept. He did not bother her, probably because she tends to bonk him on the head.
I would only be concerned if your other cat decides to groom Erik's surgical site or if they tend to wrestle? If so, it might be best to keep them separated until the stitches are out.
