I was gone for 4 days and when I came back, Gus was off his meds (except rimadyl) and doing awesome!!!  OMG!  He wants to go on walks everyday so  I put him on the leash and we go get the mail (it's about half a block away), and I have to jog to keep up with him.  He's getting better on stairs, and the spark is definitely starting to come back!!

Only thing wrong is that it appears we are getting an abscess around an area of the incision... so back to the vet this afternoon to take a look at that.

I'm SO SO SO happy that Chy and Otis are doing well!  Yay!

So glad to hear that you have been doing well. How did you make out with the access? Hugs to you, I hope it's an easy fix.

Yay Gus! Keep us posted on the abscess.   .. we know all too well how incision site complications go, so just know that letting the vet take a good look at it is well worth it!

Otis is running and hopping around like crazy. I keep thinking I will have time to get a video but he's so fast! We go on short little walks down the street but I let him tell me what he's up for...he has some phantom pain every once in a while but he's on a low dose of gaba which helps him. Love knowing that Gus and Chy are doing so well too. It is wonderful!

So the vet visit went well - she thinks it not an abscess, just some absorbable sutures causing trouble. He's on an antibiotic so that should help keep it from getting worse.  She did talk to me about the Osteosarcoma vaccine - that maybe we could get Gus on it (even tho he's not doing chemo). She's going to talk to the local university oncology dept about it (I took Gus there for a pre-surgical evaluation).

That sounds kind of exciting - anyone else's vet talking to them about the vaccine?

Hi Sarah,

I am pretty sure Fallon the greyhound will be going for the vaccine soon. They have a beautiful blog that I follow. If you have not seen it in here, here is the link: Fallon's Journey beautiful dog, beautiful people, and they have documented everything so well.

Hopefully the sutures will absorb soon, it can take several months. Maybe some will surface and can be removed, most of the time that doesn't happen though. My Rosie had suture reaction and was itchy for a while but was ok. Antibiotics should help too 🙂

I am so glad that things are going well for you, would love to see some pictures if you have them.

Hugs,

Jackie

Yay, I’m so happy to hear that Gus is doing great! Thankfully that abscess scare was just some pesky sutures, hopefully that will resolve itself here pretty soon. Very exciting on the vaccine — what a great opportunity if he’s eligible.

Chy has been well, no more meds, leg contractions have pretty much stopped, and she’s been loving the latest flurry of snow around here. It warms my heart to see her out rolling in the snow, and just being Chy. Unfortunately we had to move her PT appointment, but we’re on the books again for March 7th to try out the hydro tank. She also has quite a bit of peach fuzz coming in!! Love seeing everything healing up nicely and hair starting to fill in.

Here's a video of Gus today roaming around the backyard - tomorrow is our 4 week ampuversary!  I have to say, there were days there in the first two weeks I wasn't sure we'd make it but here we are!  My amazing boy is doing great.
