We have a ~7 year old yellow lab (Gatsby) weighing about 80 lbs. with a missing back left leg.  We've had him about 2.5 years, and got him about a month after his amputation.  He is starting to have trouble getting up on his back leg and I am starting to investigate a 'helping hand' for when he can't get around well anymore.  I assume that wheels would be a better alternative than a prosthetic, but I was wondering if there is a service that can evaluate him and make some recommendations on the best option for him.  I'm not sure how many companies do that, but maybe one of you tripod owners can help me out.  I'm in Marietta, GA - 30 miles N of Atlanta.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sutton! We're so glad you asked this important question. Many people assume their dog needs a wheel chair or prosthetic when they start having trouble getting around. The good news is that with dedication to some rehabilitation therapy sessions, most Tripawd dogs will overcome the underlying issue and not need these devices.

Has Gatsby been evaluated by a rehab practitioner? If not, guess what? Tripawds Foundation will pay for your first consult! See:

We encourage you to make an appointment asap. There could be any number of reasons why he's not feeling so spry, and there are lots of things that can be done to get his groove back. From acupuncture to massage, to core strengthening exercises and diet, with expertise you can help him be happier and more mobile. Check out these websites for practitioners near you and if you can't find any let us know:
