Dante injured himself this weekend some how - we really don't know what happened. He seemed OK this morning, I heard yelping from the dogs room later in the day so I went to check on him, and he seemed fine. When they went out he seemed stiffer than usual but nothing note worthy. When my hubby let them out again later he said it seemed like Dante's back leg was bothering him. We put him in his crate to rest him and keep the girls from pestering him and I heard him helping again. Went to check on him and he couldn't even stand properly. We did get him moving but he's walking all crooked and twisted, seems resistant to put weight on his front leg (but doesn't react when touched or stretched) and won't go far. He also can't sit or lay down properly. He also yelped just laying beside us without moving.

We are taking him in tomorrow as soon as they can squeeze us in - but if they can't get us in until later what's the best way to keep him comfy for the day? Right now he's crated with some cushy bedding so he doesn't slip at all if he does move. He's yelped once but seems to be resting comfortably otherwise. I need to keep him separated from my daughter (2) and the other dogs so they don't bother him, but would he be better off somewhere where he can move easier than the crate, or is the crate best right now?

My poor buddy. I always knew this day would come because he's such maniac, I just hope it's nothing serious!

Poor pup! Glad your vet can squeeze you in. I think just keeping him comfy in the crate so he doesn't try to move around a bunch. Please keep us posted!

I went back and read the journey of Dante...what a courageous little pup and what a devoted human!! He's absolutey adorable!

To say not to worry is crazy...HOWEVER...there are so many FIXABLE things this could be...not necessarily a "worse case scenario at all"!

Pinched nerve, inflamed disc, torn muscles, persistent cramping, even a small pelvis fracture, even wobbling and inability to get up can be a tick borne related disease.....ll sorts of things that may look scarey outwardly, and very uncomfortable, but treatable!

Gonna keep all paws crossed for you! In the meantime, at some chocoate (it helps curb the stresswinker) and give Dante a scoop of ice cream!!

Sendingnhugs!

Oh crazy Dante! All that wrasslin' you do with the pack, looks like things got a little too crazy eh? My bet is on a strained muscle that's got you down but for now I like your mom's treatment till you can get to the vet.

Chelsea if you have any NSAIDs around, you might want to call your vet to ask if it's OK to give some to him. As hard as it is to stick to the crate rest, you're doing the best thing for him till the experts can check him out. Try not to worry, it could be anything and usually it's something very manageable and short-term.

Keep us posted OK? And oh wow I can't believe your daughter is two already! Wow!

Hang in there.

Yes, time flies! I apologize for not being around more too, I keep up with all the happenings on FB though!

So, Dante seemed a bit better this morning, but he was still moving funny and seemed to be in pain, so we took him in. The vet checked him out head
to toe and she's pretty confident it's a cramped muscle between his neck and the shoulder of his remaining leg. We have some pain meds for the next few days and she told us to give him some robaxin to help relax his muscles over the next few days and he should be good to go! Phew!

He's such a daring guy. We had to recently move the couch because he was trying to go from the couch over the railing behind it! He likes to test his limits for sure!

What a relief you got to get him in early. I'm going to go with your vet's diagnosis, with that crazy boy's antics, I'd say that a cramped muscle is completely likely. Hope he feels better.

P.S. Oh my gosh please no apologies for not being here. Uh, you kinda have your hands full, Mommy! :)
