We recently rescued a 4 month old pup who had her front right leg amputated 3 weeks before we got her. I dont k ow what she looked like pre amputation, but her Lef left start bowing from the shoulder and her foot turns in, is this normal? Will cause long term negative affects?

Thank you

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

What's your puppy's name? And what kind of dog breed is she?

We highly recommend seeing a canine rehabilitation therapist to have her assessed. The bowing severity depends on a lot of factors. Many front-leg Tripawds will develop that stance after losing a leg. But since she is so young, you want to have that bowing corrected before it's too late. The end result is crippling arthritis.

A canine rehab therapist can show you how to help her stay strong, stand and walk properly, and how to help her stay injury free. We feel so strongly that rehab is beneficial, that the Tripawds Foundation may pay for her first rehab visit . So please take advantage of the program OK?

And do tell us more about her! Thank you for adopting a Tripawd, this makes our hearts happy around here!

Hi Gracie and family! I'm so glad that you are on the path to rehabilitation therapy.

Our blog post about the Rehab Reimbursement program has links to different directories for finding a therapist;

https://tripawd.....bursement/

Here is a link to a couple of different directories of rehab therapists. If you have trouble finding one near you, let me know and I can try to help. Most times they are closer than people think.

Basically you want a "CCRT" (certified canine rehab therapist) or "CCRP" (certified canine rehab practitioner) to see Gracie. The rehab reimbursement program will only reimburse when you see one of those practitioners.
