Hi. Its me Bitty. I have a silly mom, Last weekend she took me in the room where I get my bath. She said I didn't have to take a bath. I was glad I don't like baths. OMG she put me in the big thing that the water gos in! Next thing I new she was turning the round things that make water come out. She told me that she was only going to put a little bit of water in the tub. She wanted me to walk. There was no way I was going to do anything in that water.I tried to get out but it was to slippery. Mom said if I could just walk two steps she would give me a yummy bacon treat. I realy like those. I don't like them anuff to do anything in that water. So I just stood there and gave mom my pore pitaful look. I can't say she didn't try. After a wile she got me out.She said we are going to try again this weekend. YUCK!

. Magnum loved swimming at the beach and river but when I tried to get her into the pool you'd swear I was trying to drown her the way she carried on. She wouldn't have anything to do with it.
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. Oh Bitty, that doesn't sound like any fun at all! And just because it technically wasn't a "bath"... well, tell your mom that that is just semantics!
Our dog didn't like baths either and used to slip a lot (trying to escape). We got one of those plastic mat thingies with the suction cups on the bottom and would stick that down on the floor of the tub first so she had some traction . She still didn't like the baths, but at least she stood there without slipping.
I know the idea is to get Bitty to swim and not just stand there, but maybe Bitty would feel more secure if she had some solid footing at the start?
Hope you learn to like the swimming and get to eat the bacon treats Bitty!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. Hey Bitty, I know what you mean, I wasn't a real big fan of water either, at first, but gradually I really enjoyed it and even became a pretty good swimmer!
I agree with Angel Abby's great idea, have your Momma put down a no-slip mat in the tub, and fill it with water before you get in the tub. I think the noise those round spinny things make when the water comes out is pretty scary.
Little by little, Bitty one, you'll get it right!

Hi Im bittys mom Arrow We have a none slip mat.. Bitty trys to get out and slips on the sides of the tub. Any sugestions that might make the sides in the tub not so slippery?
You could try draping a large beach towel, or over-sized towel over the sides. Not sure how you would attach it to the outside of the tub, but perhaps it would be long enough where your weight could keep it in place (on one side anyway). They also sell various products for babies that attach to the sides of the tub to keep them from banging their heads-- but I'd try the large towel first.

Hmmmm. I think that the bigger issue is that she is afraid of the water. How about just adding an inch or two of water and taking it verrrrrrry slow with her. Just spend a couple of minutes each day and make it fun! fun! fun!
Many dogs love to swim but for only grew to love it after gradually getting used to having their feet wet.
