Brownie has arthritis in his spine. When he goes to lay down he keeps his back stiff and skips the sit and plops down. He has had three rounds of accupunture. It helped some but I can tell he still is in pain. He is on Rimidy and Gabapentin 300 mg. I don't think the gabapentin is helping him much and makes his back legs shaky. So yes I googled and wondering if anyone has tried meloxcam for arthritis.
I am also waiting for some new CBD to arrive. I was on the phone for an hour with the owner. One thing I did learn is if you put the CBD in their food you lose most of it to the digestive system. Thought that twas interesting.
If anyone has had good experience with medication for arthritis please share.
Thank you!
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

Nancy I can't recall but has he been on Adquan? If not, has anyone mentioned it? It's working well for Wyatt. Not a miracle cure, but he is more mobile than before.

Hi Nancy,
I know you talked about adequan before so I think you are using it?
Quad Pug Tani had arthritis in her spine too. She was never a dog who liked to be handled or held so we couldn't do acupuncture. She did however get chiropractic adjustments. I was really skeptical that they would help her but they really did- she was quite frisky after every adjustment (as frisky as an old Pug girl with mobility issues could be ).

Karen, or anyone, do you know the "certifications" to look for in a Chiropractor designation?

I've been meaning to write about this. Great question!
The American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) is the credentialing organization, and on their website you can find a credentialed animal chiropractic vet.

Thank you all! I used the li on and found Dr. Jackie Dosal. Jackie was my sister's name, so maybe that is a good sign. I called and left a message.
I also found senior paws: senior pet care. They only see dogs over ten. Their website reads they treat mobility, but it does not mention how. I am calling them tomorrow.
I have used the adequan twice. The first time it worked great but he was only having mild pain. The second time I went thru the entire bottle and saw no change at all. I was giving the injection under the skin, just lime the first time.
Thank again Jerry, Karen, and Sally!

It might be worth trying a different NSAID (Rimadyl); I find a lot of dogs do better with meloxicam or Dermaxx (now generic deracoxib) or the newer Galliprant which is safer and easier on the liver. I use CBD as well as an Assissi Loop to help my big dog's arthritis and the Dasuquin and Adequan seem to help him.
Pam
Dr. Pam thanks so much for that input. You are so right, switching up the medication can often make a big difference!
Nancy, sorry I forgot that you've tried the Adequan. I have to say that for Wyatt, it made a difference. Not dramatically, but enough that he wants to go on slightly longer walks. It's very subtle for him. He's not a puppy again but he seems more comfortable when doing activities. I'm glad that you found the other vets to talk to. Let us know what happens.

Thank you Dr Pam. I will talk to Brownie's vet about switching his meds.
