Hello, I am soon to be adding a 3-legged male german shepherd to my little family. He is 1 year old, he was hit by a car under the supervision of his previous owner in Feb 2022 and had his limb amputated. he seems to be getting around fine and well. I have a 2 year old female who is rather smaller than him. I was hoping that they would still be able to mate. His front left limb is gone. I assume it will be hard for him to mount but I would love to know if its possible and if its happened.

It's no big deal if he cannot mate and breed with my female, he will be loved nonetheless. I just like to know there is a possibility of them having babies in the future.

Thank you

Hi Catrina! Thank you for giving this sweet pup a chance at a great home. Be sure to check out our Adoption Articles for some highlights of things you can do to make his life even more pawesome!

You will be surprised but your pup should be able to figure out the mating movements. The best way to make sure he's strong enough is to have him evaluated by a canine rehabilitation therapist. It's so beneficial to know how to help him stay strong and injury free. He has a long life ahead and you want to make sure it's as injury-free and painless as possible. Rehab is so helpful that Tripawds Foundation can pay for your first rehab visit for him so please take advantage of the program.

We hope to get to know you and the pup. Consider registering as a member so your future posts won't need approval. Keep us posted!
