Giving Herbs to Pets - handy tips and hints
The herbs we prescribe for your pet may be in the form of tablets, powdered granules, or liquid tinctures. Occasionally we may even prescribe fresh or dried herbs. Administration of these herbs can sometimes be a challenge with some pets.
Here are a few tips that may make it easier for you and your pet:
- Dogs and cats can be given powdered herbs and liquid herb extracts mixed in with their food.
- If your pet’s appetite is poor you may need to disguise the taste further by using especially strong-smelling foods, like tuna or a sardines.
- If your pet’s appetite is reduced because they are unwell, do not mix medicines in regular meals if it stops them eating – administer the herbs separately in a different food treat.
