hi all!

i have just started home cooking Bentley's food for about three weeks now. I used the Balance It website which I highly recommend because even the nutritionist I was going to use at Cornell said it is great! My concern is his poo is orange (guessing the sweet potatoes) and he doesn't fully digest the kale and peppers. Is it okay his poop isn't normal brown???

Thanks!

Bentley and mama

Not a vet, but based solely on personal experience, poop will reflect the diet in both color and consistency.  Black, tarry poop should be checked by your vet, as should diarrhea.  Orange and well formed, if he has been eating sweet potatoes, probably fine.

I would guess the orange is the sweet potatoes... Jasper eats carrots and we get the same too!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Please consult your vet with serious concerns, but the color may not be as important as the consistency. As long as it is firm and there is no blood nor mucous, Bentley should be doing alright...though the food should be digested to be getting the most nutrients. He may need a probiotic added to his nutrition plan if you're doing the cooking now.

You will find much more helpful information searching the Tripawds Nutrition blog . There are many recommendations and recipes there, and lots of cookbook reviews in the Downloads blog and Amazon blog too!
