This is Polly's aunt (perhaps) writing  about her need for a healthy weight loss diet.  She is 16 mos. post amputation and chemo.  However, she needs to lose about 15 lbs.  We tried the forum homemade weight loss diet but she refused.  We have been feeding Taste of the Wild since but know that it can not be a weight loss diet.  My mother, Polly's mother, needs a canned and/or dry food Healthy, weight loss diet.

Thank you.  We haven't asked him since trying the homemade diet from here.  Plan to.

Be sure to check out Trouble's Canine Reducing Diet, it sure worked for her. You'll find more diet recommendations in the Tripawds Nutrition blog. Above all, immediately stop giving any commercial treats – try feeding green beans or fresh fruit to reward your pup!

FYI: DogFoodAdvisor gave Hill’s Prescription Diet R/D Canine (Dry) 2 out of 5 stars. whatever

Thanks.  Trouble's diet was the one that Polly refused for in any combination.  She didn't like the vegetables.  She will eat the meat and cottage cheese.

That's a shame - Trouble loved the veggies.  I actually started her out with kibble and green beans, but it wasn't doing the trick.

I will throw this in - I used the Natural Balance reducing kibble and it really piled the pounds on.  After that is when I used the reducing diet.

Good luck, it is a challenge to find what works for you.

I'll throw this in for ideas.  I feed Honest Kitchen foods to my dogs.  One of the diets, Verve, is low fat and your dog WILL loose weight on it.  It is a grained food but whole grains and not too high in carbs.  I do feed it on occasion for a change.  If you add meat to it, that increases the fat/protein content if the dog looses too much weight on it.
