[Image Can Not Be Found]I’ve been trying to do some research on supplements but I'm not getting anywhere.  I read The Natural Vet's Guide to Preventing and Treating Cancer in Dogs by Shawn Messonnier.  I think I stumbled onto this at Amazon and it was highly rated.  It was good in some respects but not that useful for us.  The sections on herbs and supplements describe specifically why each thing is useful and for what specific condition, but Tate’s cancer or chemo were never mentioned.  Also searched this site and got some ideas but I’m just not sure.

So we just can’t do the holistic vet thing and Dr. M. warns against doing this without a vet.  Is that true or are there safe supplements that I should consider?  I’m wondering if there is something that everyone pretty much does all the time.  I’m guessing fish oil is one obvious thing, but is there anything else?

Tate has histiocytic sarcoma and he’s on CCNU and Rimadyl.

Sure hope you stumbled onto Dr Messonnier's book in  the Tripawds Amazon blogwink

While a professional opinion is always beneficial, so is real feedback from users. Thanks for asking.

The most common supplements for cancer dogs seem to be immunity boosters. The best mushroom based supplements are all natural, with Power Mushrooms and K9 Immunity being the most popular. High quality fish oil, and a good joint supplement are others to consider. Find more recommendations from member submitted diet and supplement plans in the Tripawds Nutrition blog.

Duh!  Anuway, I mean anyway, thanks.  I probably did find this on the Tripawds Amazon blog , it was quite some time ago.  The book was really good in that it explained things so well...just not relevant to Tate.  So I'll do some research on the mushrooms...and "Anu"...although I hear rabbit meat is supposed to be very helpful.

We started Riley on the K-9 Immunity and Transfer Factor and then switched her from fish oil capsules to the K9 Omega...

Then she also gets:

Milk Thistle

Sea Kelp

Burdock

Red Clover

Yellow Dock

Green Vibrance

Liquid Glucosamine

Pet Tabs

Acidophilus

I am also giving her a Desiccated Liver tabs – but once it’s gone I probably won't get more as she gets cooked chicken liver, heart & gizzards….

Hope that helps……big-blink
