So after a consultation with OSU Vet. Hospital our vet has put Emily on a new drug combination.  She is now on Gabapentin and amantadine. I copied what they do together and accidentally copied over it so I will  try again to post it.  It is kind of interesting.

Debra & Emily

Nearly missed this posting!  I want you to know that we have been following Emily's situation even if we do not always post a reply due to the feeling that I really do not have much to add.  However, we just had to say the you are in our thoughts and prayers.  We keep hoping that you (along with Jake) will soon turn the corner and show the kind of improvement that you deserve.  Contiue to fight with the knowledge that you have a very large community pulling for you.

As always - Paws Crossed, Sending Pawsitve Thoughts, and Special Prayers

I hope that these drugs help Emily as much as they have helped my Pitbull Kona.  She takes the gabapentin twice daily and takes 100 mg amantadine once daily.  I "pulse" dose the amantadine by giving it daily for 2-3 months then stopping it for a few weeks.  Amantadine is an antiviral drug but reduces "windup" of pain receptors and helps the other drugs (especially NSAIDS) work more effectively.  Did they keep Emily's dose of Pred unchanged?

Pam, They are having us lower it.  Starting yesterday Emily had 20 mg in the morning and 10 at night.  Starting Tuesday she will go to 20 mg once a day unless OSU Vet. Hospital changes it.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.  I will post Tuesday night.
