Sweet Sweet Emmylou and Shelby the Petite Princess are together again.

Emmylou left us on January 16th. A very aggressive growth between her lung and heart, there was nothing they could do.

On the way back to the vet, we stopped at one of Sweet Sweets favorite burger joints. A cheeseburger and a vanilla ice cream cone to go please!

As usual, she gobbled them down, all the while having a big ice cream smear on her nose!

A few minutes later, laying in my lap, she quietly left.

I bet Shelby ran her ragged showing her around behind the Rainbow Bridge!! I hope she remembers that Emmylou doesn't "run", she trots, and not very fast either.

We miss her so much. We know she had a terrible start in life, but then she got to spend 10 loving years with us. A very quiet, calm, sweet girl that did things her way.

She left a big hole in our hearts...melou-2004-pooch-coach.jpgImage Enlarger

Ohhhhh Jack! Cindi! My heart broke when I saw this, I'm so sorry. icon_cry

You always give your fur kids the best life any critter could ever hope for. And you did that until her last breath, sparing her of any suffering. She went out on her terms, there is no greater gift!

Gentle Emmylou was so loved and I'm certain she knew it. I can just picture her and Shelby together, Farrah Fawcett tails flying in the breeze, so bright and beautiful.

Her loss leaves a huge hole in your pack. How is everyone taking her absence?

My heart goes out to you and Cindi, please give her a big hug from us.

I'm so sorry Jack and Cindi. She may have been the last of all of our original packs.  How can so much time have gone by?

This is such a hard part of our journey's with our special pups, but a decision that is made with love.

I always remember what Shana told me one time- these special ones find us because we are willing and able to give them what they need.  You guys were the salve that healed her and you gave her the very best life a pup could ever have.

Absolutely  Shelby was there to greet sweet Emmylou as she ran full throttle  towards the Rainbow Bridge.

All of your dogs have the best earth life possible and Emmy was no exception.  Necause her well being was always at the forefront, you and Cindi  gave her a lovely and dignified  send off even though your heart was breaking.

What I'm replicating below is a post you made about Emmylou over a year ago.  We got to know her so well as you recounted  all the nuances  that made Emmy so special, so loveable, so joyful  and so endearing.  Thank you for sharing this sweet and gentle  Soul with us.  And  the two adoravle pictures you posted above  melted my heart.

Surrounding  you with love and light♥️

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

                                  ♥️♥️♥️

"........Emmy is very much a home body. She has her routines. After years of practice they cover everything and everywhere she needs to do and go. First thing in the morning she runs to the front door just bustin' to get outside. Her front legs are dancing and when the door opens, she bounds down the ramp. Time for her first walkabout! Puts her nose in the wind and decides which way we go. We mostly walk down the front sidewalk to the next door neighbor's driveway. Every new bird dropping on the sidewalk must be checked, sometimes twice, then, onto the next target. Sometimes we find small chips of wood, the next door neighbors splits a lot of wood during the summer, so that needs to be checked out. Sometimes there is birdseed next to the street, it must be checked for sunflower seeds and such. Each new weed in the cracks in the sidewalk must be inspected, then we move on. Gutters on her side of the street need checking, if there's something that needs tending to, she's on it. Our walkabouts can take 15 minutes, sometimes only 2 or 3. If there is a delivery truck, trash truck or a vehicle she doesn't know, it gets checked out.  Nothing gets by her. After the inspection is done, time to relieve herself. One last nose in the wind, satisfied, trots back to the house to have her breakfast.

Emmy LOVES and inhales her breakfast and dinner. While we're fixing her food, drooling while doing tons of TRIPAWD TWIRLS! (She learned those from her big sister Shelby!) Then she goes to the back yard and relieves herself again. Back inside to see if any crumbs or bits of food left in Rosy's or Dusty's bowl. Fat chance of that happening!

We go on her walkabouts several times a day. The key is, each is new and different than the last one. Each walk has new and different things to see and smell. Sometimes the toddler next door has a need to hug her, so, she stands stoically and allows him to hug but not necessarily kiss her.

Her job in the house is to look out the screen door and monitor all traffic on our half of the Cul-de-Sac.  Any movement, she alerts us. Once all is quiet and back to normal, she's back at her post. Usually in the afternoon, she takes a well-earned siesta. When needed she'll do a "walk by". Getting within petting distance and presenting herself ready to be loved on. After she gets enough love from one of us, it's on the to the other peep for more love. If that goes well, onto the kitchen in search of a treat or two. She is a master of the "over the shoulder" look and she's not afraid to use it.

Every so often we take Emmy to get an ice cream cone. We sit on the tailgate and devour our ice cream and smile at the folks driving by. Normally she hates going for car rides, throws up 5 minutes after we leave the house. However, it never happens on the way to and from the ice cream store, or the groomers if truth be told!

We were told by a local dog trainer she acts as if she had no contact with either other dogs or people in the first 18 months of her life. Before she adopted us, Emmy was returned from a previous adopter because she couldn't get her to "do anything."

She's perfect to us, though.  She has such a calm, peaceful, satisfied and settled way about her. She's so happy doing what she does. She found her purpose in life to always bring smiles to our faces and keep our home safe, secure and happy.

Cindi & Jack, I am so sad to hear Emmylou has gone on. She was indeed the sweetest girl. I think Karen is right, Emmy was the last of all our original packs to cross the bridge. I came to this page before I signed in and Austin Ray's banner was flying proud. And after I logged in and came back the Petite Princess' banner was up! A sure sign that the whole Mill Valley pack was there to greet Emmylou as she trotted across the Bridge. I loved re-reading the post you made last year about Emmy (thank you Sally!). She was such a sweet perfect soul and you sum up her essence so perfectly. Each dog we love makes our hearts grow bigger. Each dog we love teaches us how to Be More Dog in one way or another. Emmy may be gone but she has left you her lessons to ponder as well as many fond memories to help ease your grief in this moment.

Run free Sweet Sweet Emmylou!

Sending you much peace and love,
