My sweet boy Rusty was diagnose August 2013 with bone cancer. We were totally devastated when the vet told us,he said he needed to amputate his rear leg. I researched it to find the best thing to do for him. We finally decided to amputate but no chem or radiation. We wanted him out of pain and able to run and play with his 3 sisters, which he did. He acted like he had all four legs. He loved playing, going for walks, his attention and treats. We were gone for 30 minutes and left him in the back yard while we were gone. He was screaming in pain we thought maybe he tripped and hurt his front paw,so off to the ER but the xray showed cancer again in his front paw on the same side as his amputation. We took him home thinking he will be ok on pain pills but that wasnt fair to him. The next morning the family said good-bye to him,we went to the vet at 12:30 and stayed beside him until his heart quit and he was in peace. It was so hard for my 14 year old son to let him go. We love and miss you very much Rusty.

I am so sorry for your loss of your beloved Rusty ... sending you love and strength in your time of sadness.

Hugs and love,

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Oh, so very, very sorry. A sad day for us all.

Rusty was so loved and had such a good adovate and best friend in you and your family. He was sooo loved and he knew it!

No, we NEVER have enough time with our pets, EVER! But Rusty got more spoiling and loving and had more fun in those ten months than most dogs get in a lifetime!! I tell you one thing, that Rusty was one stong and determined fella' who beat the odds and made up his own statistics and his own rules! He overcame obstacles indeed! And he did it because you were equally strong and determined! My goodness, when he had that crazy jaw thing happen and you figured out a way to feed him and to get him fluids......such devotion!!!

You ALEAYS had Rusty's best interest amd well-being at heart! And you did a very selfless act and did what was in his best interest by giving him the release from pain. And that stupid cruel disease could not touch Rusty's spirit!! It was not able to stop him for one second from having fun amd soaking up the love!

There is so much support here and so much understa ding from people who get the depth of love we have for our tripawds. Yes, your void will be with yiu for a long time....the routine....the jabits....the always watching over our tripawds.....vut Rusty left you with a lifetime of treasured memories. Memories that will soon return to help push the grief away. If you search this "thread", you will find all sorts of "thoughts", poems, etc. written by people who understand. I hope you find these comforting.

Have your son read all about the Rainbow Bridge, and let him know...and you know...you are not alone! Perhaps he would like to share more of his life with Rusty and what a great dog he was. We would love to hear ore about him AND see ore, pictures! His avatar photo is so darn cute

Sending you hugs and surrounding you with Rusty's eternal love and wagging tail of happiness!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Rusty. It is so very hard. A lot of us here know what you are feeling. As you begin to heal in the future, perhaps you can plant a garden, do a scrapbook or make something with your son that will help him process things. Being on here helps also. We are here for you. Lori and Ty

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. I am so very sorry for your family's loss of Rusty.  It's been almost 2 weeks since I had to let my dear Leland go and I still have times when I just break down and cry because I miss him so much.  I know that Leland is no longer suffering in pain and having to deal with more surgeries and it helps a little knowing that I did right by him.  It will just take time to move past the loss of our beloved fur kids and that's ok.

Sending many hugs to your family!!

Noooooo. I'm SO sorry! Lorie, this is just such a sad, sad day, I can't believe this.

We can only imagine that although Rusty is an angel now, he is running free and happy with Snoop, and Leland, and all our Tripawd angels who went before him.

You and Rusty battled through so much, you came through it with flying colors and you made a difference in this world when you shared your story with us. I hope that this gives you some comfort as you cope with his loss, I know it's so hard, especially when it's so unexpected like this.

My heart goes out to all of you, I'm so very sorry.

For those of you unfamiliar with Rusty's story, check out our Tripawd Tuesday blog post that tells about how he overcame a very, very tough battle thanks to Lorie's dedication:
