Today I say goodbye to my heart and soul. I had so hoped she would make it to her 1-year, but she is finished.
She fought this demon, cancer, hard and long, and her battle-scarred body is just too tired to fight any more. And all of my wishing for just a little more time is in vain.
Send me strength to get through this day...

Dammit Micki. I am so incredibly sorry. So frickin unfair, as everyone else here knows. I wish there was something I could do. Just know that we will now hold you up the same as you've held up others for months. It's your turn now. Take advantage of all the broad shoulders here. Much love coming to you and Brian and the goofballs.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
Oh, Micki, I am so so very sorry. Rio has been one of our heros since we joined this site and my heart aches for you. I will pray for strength for you today and in the days to come. Please give her a kiss on the snout from all of us to whom she has been an inspiration. Hugs.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Oh!!! NO!!! NO!!! NO!!!
Oh, Micki! Oh! No!
I'm so sorry! I'm just so sorry!
Tears.
I'll write more later. But for now - I need to cry for you and our dearest Rio!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Rio made it far more than a year- she was a cancer warrior for close to 5 years.
I am so sorry Micki that Rio's journey ended today. The amazing cancer battle you have waged has given you the strength to let your girl go on to her next adventure, and will give you the strength you need to get through today, and the days to come. The Woo-pug has only left you physically, she will always be in your heart and a part of your soul.
You and Rio have been such a pillar in this community- please lean on us now as much as you need.
Sending you thoughts of strength and peace.
Karen
I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl. Tears flowing here for you and your family. Sending you hugs and strength as you say goodbye to and grieve for Rio.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
micki, words just aren't there to express how sorry we are to read this. rio was such a brave girl, and now she's off on a brand new adventure. hope the woo catches up with gayle and abby...the three of them could cause some serious 'heaven rowdiness'. know that we are all here for you, and if there is ANYTHING you need, don't hesitate to ask. you've been such a rock to all of us...
love never ends.
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Micki,
I am so sorry that it was Rio's time to journey to Rainbow Bridge. You both fought a courageous fight and it is important to always remember that the cancer did not win....the balance between her spirit and body tipped in favor of her spirit, and you were the chosen one to set her free. In time, may memories of Rio bring smiles and happiness instead of only tears and sadness.
Godspeed sweet Rio. Run free with all of the heroes that have gone before you. Send your momma pennies when you can.
Wishing you peace, strength, and courage until you both meet again...
Hugs and chocolate labby kisses,

I am so sorry to hear that you had to say goodbye to Rio today, Micki. Bless you for having the courage to help her take her next step on her journey. Wishing you peace, love and comfort in knowing that she will be with you in spirit until you reunite one day.

Micki,
I know too well how your heart is breaking right now. You and Rio have helped so many of us in more ways than you will ever know. You gave us hope, encouragement and sound advice when it seemed like we couldn't make it through another day. There just aren't words to describe how sad we feel at losing one of our own and knowing the emptiness you are feeling.
We all got to know sweet Rio through your posts and we will all miss her so much. She is with her tripawds friends in heaven now, in no pain.
You have our love, strength as prayers as you go on one day at a time...baby steps... Healing a broken heart takes a long time.
We are all here for you; we are family.

Oh Micki, I am so very sorry. Rio was a true warrior princess. She fought cancer for so long- in the words of my students she "was a beast!" (and that's one of their highest compliments). I am sorry that it was time for her journey to end with you. I know how much you are hurting, and I wish I was there to give you a hug and cry with you. You have been there for so many of us when we lost our fur-baby's, please let us be there for you as long as you need us.

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Oh, dear Rio and Micki! We're all so very, very sad to hear this news today. I started to cry the minute I saw the title of your post.
So sorry that you and the Woo have to say goodbye today. I have often admired and been inspired by you and Rio's tenacity in the fight against cancer.
Today you show us the way again...knowing when the time is right.
Sending warm thoughts and more than a few big tears your way today....
