I woke up this morning to find that Oscar had passed away. I'm so upset right now. I really do feel like he had an internal injury when they let us bring him home. My husband took his body back to the vet's office today and they will do an autopsy to see if they can find out what caused his death.
I'm just glad that he got to spend the last few hours of his life at home getting tons of love from his family. I had him sleep right next to my bed last night and would occasionally reach down to scratch him when I would hear him getting resless. Even though he had to have been in horrible pain and dying he would still wag his tail. He was always such a happy and agreeable boy he wanted his mom to know that everything was ok.
I want to thank you all for your kind words and support during Oscar's surgery. Being able to come here and post and get feedback on what to expect during his recovery really did help me a lot.
Oh no. I'm so, so sorry 🙁
Your love for Oscar has been evident in all of your posts - I know your heart must be breaking right now. I'm sorry this had to happen the way it did, and I'm glad you're able to find peace in the fact that he spent his last few hours at home where he could be loved and snuggled by those who meant the most to him.
Sending warm thoughts you way, run free sweet boy.
Oh that is beyond words terrible. I am SO VERY sorry!!
I don't even know what to say beyond that.

Oh how tragic. We feel so sorry for you... I had just replied to your post-op concerns post only to see this topic minutes later.
It sounds like Oscar may have been a victim of bloat, totally unrelated to the amputation. Please accept our deepest condolences. And thank you for sharing Oscar's story here.

This is so very sad, we can't imagine the shock. Please know that you did everything you could to give him a chance at a pain-free life, and he knew that as well. Your bond will never be broken.
We are so deeply sorry. If you want to talk, we're here OK? {{{{hugs]}}}}

I'm so shocked and saddened by the news of Oscar. I know your hearts are just so broken.
Oh, my heart just aches - how tragic. I really, really hope you get some resolution on the autopsy. The wondering is so hard.
It does sound like it was bloat OR it could have been a blood clot. I know I had one to die suddenly within 2 days of a successful knee surgery and it wasn't bloat - the vet concluded a blood clot passed through the lungs. If it's any consolation, if it was a blood clot there wouldn't have been anything you could have done. Sometimes they just happen.
You and your poor husband.
Yes, please, please come back and talk and let us know if you find out anything.
Sending you a big hug,
