Today marks one year since Abbey had her surgery. Although she didn't make her ampuversary here with us, we still consider it a special day and want to say we still have no regrets and would encourage anyone facing osteosarcoma to do the same.  After her surgery, she had five+ pain free months and ran and played and smiled again. When I look back on our pre-op pictures, I see the pain in her eyes. If I have any slight regret it's that we waited almost 3 mos to have surgery after she was diagnosed.  Once I found this website, it was a green light. Many thanks to all of you who helped me make the decision. She was so glad we did.

Awwww Diane, what a year it's been. We are so glad you came here again to tell people your story. That even after all this time has passed, you would still do it again.

Just remember though, think more dog: No regrets.

(Abbey, you were such a brave girl. We know you are running free and having a ball with all of our kids. May your spirit shine on forever. Many loving thoughts are coming your way.)

Thank you so much; it has been a year indeed! You're right, of course...NO regrets. We did the best we could with the knowledge we had and it is what it is. Thanks for reminding me. I forgot to mention that on the 7 mos anniversary of her passing, I somehow had missed it! But I was walking Layla around sunset and had a thought just drop in my head of Abbey and I really did feel her presence for awhile. Really cool...I got back to the house and realized it was May 2, 7 mos out. Love crosses the boundaries, even of death.

We second that. There have been many, many times when we have been reunited in very magical ways. It makes the pain of losing a loved one just a little more bearable.

I third that!  Smile  Thanks so much Di for sharing that beautiful experience about Abbey visiting you on her anniversary.  I'm sure Abbey and Jake are having a good old time with Jerry and all of our beloved spirit fur babies.  Our spirit fur babies DO find ways to communicate with us and yes… it is magical indeed.

I received another visit from Jake this past Monday on my way back from picking up his remains (which by the way was the first time I felt angry over Jake's death).  It must have been the reality of seeing the urn and something inside me snapped and I became irritable and angry.   I had an hour car ride home with Smooch and Gus (3 month old puppy) to reflect on these feelings and I tried to just relax while I was driving by listening to the radio.  The sunset was amazing that evening and I kept thinking of Jake's spirit when I stared at it.  It seemed to calm me.  Then, as I was driving, I truly felt Jake's incredible presence with me.  I felt him burying his furry head into my neck and chest (like he did when he use to give me a hug).  I could smell him and it just felt heavenly.  It was quick but it left a smile on my face and I saw Smoochie (who was sitting right next to me) staring at me and then looked up as if he was following Jake's spirit float up.  I know longer felt angry… how could I?  I had just been visited by my sweet angel and he was reassuring me that he wasn't in that silly urn.  He is all around me in such beautiful ways… like in that amazing sunset!  What a blessing for us to be AWARE of their visits!

Diana, it means a lot to me that pawrents who have lost their angels continue to celebrate and encourage those of us still on the journey.  Your wisdom, peace, and acceptance provide me strength.

Happy ampuversary Abbey, run free with the other tripawd angels.  You are so loved.

Celebrate the angels, for they still teach us so much.

Diane, I see and feel Wrigley all the time. She finds lots of ways to remind me she has only left me physically- her spirit will stay with me forever. It really does help make missing her not so painful.

I hope Abbey continues to make many visits back to you-

Thank you ALL so much~ You guys mean the world to me.

Kim, I so understand about sleeping with Buster's pillow. I have Abbey's collar and Beatles' LOVE t-shirt and her ashes on my bedside table, and her bed right there too...

I know that our fur babies are having fun and running and swimming and enjoying good company! I'm SURE Abbey has met Buster and Jake and they've raced up a hill together.  Jerry of course was at the top and called the race!

love to all,

di

I still have Jerry's purple sweater at my bedside too, and his stuffed animals in the living room. There are times when I just hold up those toys to my face and inhale his doggie smell that he left behind, and all the memories come flooding back. It feels good.

And I've got Jerry's plush soccer ball on my side of the bed, always there for a quick squeeze in times of need. Thanks for the image of their race up the hill, that was sweet.
