Life can be unbelievable cruel.

Chaser died unexpectedly Saturday morning. She had been recovering well from the surgery. The vet called that morning and said we could take her home in the afternoon. Ninety minutes later the phone rang, the vet telling me she had passed. Probably a clot, so it happened quickly.

I can't begin to tell you my feelings. For once, words fail me. To be so close to having her home with us for whatever time we had left, made all those preparations, read EVERYTHING I could to make things easier for her and for us...and then - POOF - all gone in an instant.

My only consolation is she no longer feels any pain. That is left for us to bear. In my heart I know she's Upstairs chasing tennis balls my dad is tossing her. For her it's a grand new beginning.

Thanks to you all for your advice and support. I will keep all of you and your tripawds in my prayers.

I so hope you don't mind that I moved this.  I didn't want anyone to miss it.

I cannot begin to tell you how sad I was to read this.  Chaser's picture won my heart - all those wonderful balls, what fun Chaser must have had. My heart goes out to you and my thoughts are with you as you face this terrible loss.

You did all you could, and the intentions were the very best.  Unfortunately, we do not always know what the future holds. May your wonderful memories soon replace the deep sorrow you feel now.

RIP sweet Chaser.  Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

I'm so sorry for what happened 🙁  We all know these things can be a possibility, but none of us really ever expect them to happen...  I know nothing I can say will make you feel any better, but please know that we'll be thinking of you and remembering Chaser and wondering what he's doing now that he's in invisible form (think of all the mischief you could get into if you were invisible!!!) smiley  Hugs to you and yours.

Oh, I'm so, so  sorry for your loss.  You're right life seems so cruel sometimes.  I do believe however, things happen for a reason.  It may take years to learn what they are. All you can do now is let yourself grieve, take comfort in your beautiful memories, and know that Chaser is breaking the "tennis balls in mouth" record up there with your dad.

Deepest sympathy,

Lisa & Sadie

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

I am so sorry to hear this...what a terrible shock.  Know that still you did everything right for Chaser to take away the pain.  Sometimes we just have no idea why things happen.

Hugs to you and your family

Bless you for doing all you could for Chaser. And thank you for sharing her story, albeit brief. As tragic as her unexpected end was, it will help others prepare for the worst when facing the smae tough decisions you have faced.

We know nothing may heal your pain right now, but Jerry's vet once told us that a blood clot is a very quick, painless way to go.

Run free Chaser. Peace.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I love the idea of her chasing tennis balls that your dad is tossing to her.  Yes, it truly is a grand new beginning for her.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.

After my father passed away, I had a dream he came to play with Jerry and was romping around on the floor with him – something he never could have done in his poor health. Now I know he is up at the Bridge rubbing Jerry's ears, something they both loved. Thank you for reminding me of that dream, it's a nice thought for Father's day.

I just don't even know where to begin...I gasped when I read the title of the post.

This is so heartbreaking.  I feel even worse by the fact I wrote that Chaser was better at the vet's and she'd be home soon enough.  Since I have been through a similar situation, I know how painful it is.  And it hurts deeply knowing your family has to go through this.

I have to believe that fate intervenes somehow, someway - for whatever reason.

May you find peace in your heart that Chaser had a tremendous life and was loved dearly.

Sending heartfelt Hugs.

This is so, so sad and hard to believe. I am deeply sorry. Life seems so unfair when things like this happen. I hate this.

We can't imagine the kind of shock you are feeling right now, and I know that there are no words that can take away the grief. Please try to take comfort in the memories you shared, and in knowing that she is reunited with your Dad. Our hearts go out to you and your family.

If there is anything we can do, please let us know OK? We're all here for you.

Much, much love coming your way...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  You were ready to make the big transition to a tripawd and that experience was taken from you so unexpectedly.  We had a horrible post-op experience with Brody almost bleeding out; he needed 5 days in ICU and 2 transfusions.  It was heartbreaking because he looked so good the day after surgery.  We never know, but you did all you could.  And yes, Chaser will be there at Rainbow Bridge with all those tennis balls.

Brody's Mom, Pat
