Chester was born April 2, 2019. When he was only hours old, his mother and another dog had a fight on top of the pups. Chester got his right front leg broken and dislocated in a couple of places. He was only 2 1/2 Oz. He couldn’t suck, so I had to milk his mom and hand feed him for a couple of weeks. He was taken to my vet and a splint was put on his leg. He cried all night. I had to remove it and use a soft splint. He made a couple more trips to the vet and I was told the leg had to come off, but he had never been X-rayed. I took him to a specialist in Tulsa and he got his X-rays. The specialist told me, his growth plate was so damaged that he couldn’t fix his leg and he’d have to have it removed. 😢 It was also dislocated in a couple of places. Chester only weighed 1 lb 4 Oz. He will have to wait till he gets bigger to have it removed.
Thank you for sharing Chester's story! It was nice chatting on the Tripawds Helpline today. I forgot to ask, are you doing OK and safe from all the flooding around there? I hope so!
Chester is such a lucky pup to have you looking out for him. That is wonderful you took him to a specialist.
As I mentioned on the phone, you may want to ask about a prosthetic just in case he is a candidate. He may not be but it can't hurt to ask, as an artificial limb can really make a big difference in an animal's quality of life.
And after his amputation surgery, don't forget that if you take him to a canine rehabilitation therapist that will also be super helpful. The best part is, Tripawds Foundation has a program that will pay for your first rehab visit !
We would love to see photos of Chester. Here is information about adding images to the Forums. You basically need to host them somewhere like in your own Tripawds blog, or a photo sharing site like Facebook, Imgur.com, etc. Then you copy/paste the image URL into your forum post here. I am happy to help with that if you'd like. We can't wait to see him and follow along with your journey!

Glad you got logged in okay and spoke with Rene further. . (I was your first Helpline contact today.) Hearing your story and reading it here really shows the lengths you have gone to to help this little fella'. Standing ovation to you.
