Hello,
So my 13 year old beagle, Kasey, had her right front leg and shoulder amputated about a year and a half ago. She is doing great and has had no major issues with the amputation. Since her amputation she survived a broken toe on her remaining front leg and pancreatitis. Well today she was laying on the floor and I was petting her where her leg was amputated. I noticed what felt like a lump, but it's moveable and soft. When I was trying to see if it was soft and not hard along with seeing if I could move it, she was crying and yelping. Every time I try to touch it and get a good idea of how it feels she cries. Any advice on what it could be? I'm trying to put my mind at ease until I can talk to her vet on Monday.
Thanks,
Danell
This probably wontw go thru either

Was your dog's leg amputated due to cancer? If so what type?
It could be a lipoma (benign fatty tumor) but those are typically not painful.
Most likely your vet will need to do a fine needle aspirate to examine the cells in order to tell you what the lump is and if your should be concerned.

I took Kasey into the vet today and they did a fine need aspirate. When she did the first one, blood mainly came out and from what I've heard that is not a good sign. Then she did another one and clearish liquid came out. She ran some tests and she said she saw some "suspicious cells". She was sending it off to get a better reading. I will not know anything for 5-7 days. She told me she was sending it off to see if it could possibly be another mast cell tumor or something else. She basically ruled out a fatty tumor. I am at loss. The lump came up pretty quick, much like the mast cell tumor she had before. I guess I got my hopes up because I can move this one around and the other one I could not. I have to take my other dog in tomorrow for some blood work. She's been on meds for bile build up in her gallbladder. I completely forgot she had an appointment tomorrow or I would've taken her in with me! I am going to ask my vet to explain it to me again because I kinda zoned out when I heard the words "suspicious cells".
Ohhhh try not to worry, lumps can be anything. I know it's hard to b calm when waiting seems like an eternity. That's a long time, I know I'd go crazy.
Folks, check out Kasey's story, talk about a survivor!
