Clenna, our pug, is not able to get out of the bed at night and has excessive thirst so we have to get up and bring her water during the night. She will not use stairs or a ramp. Anyone go through this and have a solution? Was wondering if there's some sort of device we could attach to our bed for her to drink out of.
thanks for any tips or recommendations!
I went back and read your previous post last year amd noted some of the suggestions offered. Guess this new post means none of them worked.....bummer!
Hopefully some others will have some new ideas.
Curious as to the cause of her need to drink during the night? It may bea "Pug thing"😉
Hope this find Clenna well and enjoying her sweet self💖

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
It's not unusual for a dog to not want to use a ramp so that's not too concerning. Do you know why she has excessive thirst?
When Jerry was on prednisone, he was sooo thirsty at night. I get it! Is Clenna in your bed or hers? I'm not clear on that. But other than keeping a portable dog water dish by the bed I'm not sure what you can do. Maybe hang a no-spill hamster bottle on the headboard and teach her how to use it? Just a weird idea I had!
Thanks for responding.
I think it's a pug thing or just that she used to get drinks when we were sleeping but now can't.
I was hoping there was some sort of new device we could try, because it's still ongoing. My husband has to get up with her twice a night to get her water so it's definitely inconvenient. She's worth it of course, but hoping tor a solution.
Thank you for responding.
It's our bed which we share.
I'm not sure why she needs water at night, but I'm thinking she always did, but we never noticed until now since she can't get off the bed on her own.
thank you for your recommendations. We could try the hamster water as my husband said the same thing! I don't know what to do cause we thought of building something but it feels like it could be a big mess with water hanging next to the bed and having our toddler at home.
It's nice to see you here again!
The only time I had excessive thirst issues with any of my Pugs was when Maggie was taking prednisone as part of her cancer treatment. I had to bring her water because she couldn't get on or off the bed by herself but usually if I gave her water right before I went to sleep it was enough.
Now my Pug mix tripawd (rear) sometimes wants water when she is in bed but she will usually get down and back up on her own. If I notice before I get in bed I will bring her the bowl.
Have you looked at spill proof water dishes? They usually have an insert or ring on the top so that water can't slosh out. I have one I use when we are at Nose Work Trials so that we don't knock the bowl and spill. It has Velcro on the bottom so it 'sticks' to the bed liner in my truck which also helps keep it from spilling. It seems like the driest solution would be going back to the platform idea I suggested in your earlier post with a spill proof bowl. The last set of stairs I built for my Tri Elly to get up on the bed has a platform at the top that is level with the bed which allows her to get lined up for the steps. Maybe some type of small platform that is level with your bed that can hold the water dish would work. I would put sides on it so she can't fall off. The stairs I built are pretty light and I can move them away from the bed when I'm cleaning the floors or making the bed.
I hope you find something that works!
