About a month ago a large yellow dog with three legs came into our lives. As a result I googled three legged dogs and found this blog. Proof that the universe works in mysterious ways 
. Has anyone out there rescued a tripawed? The shelter says he was surrendered and amputation result of jumping out of a truck to chase cattle. Yes I'm shaking my head. Their loss our gain. Any tips for portable ramps to get into cars and campers? He tries to pull himself up w front legs but doesn't work. Panics and makes it harder for me to lift him.

Welcome! Gerry was a rescue too. He had all four legs, but a nasty old knee injury that the shelter's vet said would be best treated by amputation. He can get in and out of my minivan, just fine, but getting him a ramp is still on my to-do list. The first one I bought was defective though (no wonder it was cheap!) and will not fold back up, so I can't fit it in my car, except where I put Gerry and it tends to fall over and freak him out no matter how carefully I try to wedge it in.

Hi Megan. You are the sweetest thing to rescue Diesel. There is a reason he came into your life and him into yours. Ive already learned so much from my three legged love. Hers was due to cancer but its taught me to now sweat the small stuff in life. We have a 90 lb American Bulldog, and we use a ramp to get her in and out of my SUV. When she first came home my boyfriend had to lift her. There was no way in heck I was gonna be able to pick her up on my own. We used the ramp about 3 weeks after surgery because she was still a bit unsteady and we didn't want her to fall off it. Now she runs up and down the ramp with no problem. Sometimes I have to bribe her with a treat, and that motivates her. I would highly recommend the ramp. When I go to my car tomorrow I will check to see which brand it is and let you know. I know they can be expensive but to me it was well worth not breaking my back trying to pick her up.
