Penny was totally crazy as a puppy. I almost thought something was wrong with her way-confused. I had just lost my first dog (also a bullmastiff). She was 4,5 years old when we got her and was quite calm and well-mannered, so a WILD puppy was something new! I had bruises all over my arms after playing with Penny. She was just happy, but strong. She learned very early to steal food. She could come running down the stairs and in one jump take something from the kitchen bench. Once I had to take a whole big cheese out of her mouth because she almost choked herself. She jumped up on an elderly lady 80+ (neighbour) once. Just happy of course, but the lady fell backwards and I thought, oh my..how bad is she hurt?! But it went quite well and that lady LOVED Penny. (Unfortunately she is dead now). Another time in a parking lot when I and a friend who also got a bullmastiff, let our dogs loose, and they started to run around and play and so on, but wilder and wilder. Suddenly I see a man beside his car with both the front doors open, and Penny runs towards that car and THROUGH IT! I didn't believe my eyes! The other dog ran outside the car, that a normal dog would do.. I apologize to the man of course and luckily he wasn't angry. Well well, the list can be long. Anyway many years now Penny has really been and is a wonderful, funny bullmastiff. You can say she just had to grow and let everything end up in the right places, (hope you understand what I mean). Of course I loved her then as I do, if possible even more, now. Wilbur is a really easy and cute dog. Penny and he have always played together and liked each other. I remember when I took him home and she met him for the first time and she just looked at me as she would like to say it was a wonderful gift! Wilbur comes from one of my best friends and she and her family lives very near. I was there when Wilbur and the other puppies were born. It was fantastic! Wilbur I had to help a little to come out and blow a little air into him, so he has always looked at me as his mom smiley. Dogs and other pets really give us laughs, right smiley?

Great stories!! So sweet about Wilbur thinking of you as his mom. And I love the crazy Penny stories! The one about her jumping through the car cracked me up!

And, yes, our pets definitely make us laugh. Every day! It's one of their best qualities.

Rita sends nose-pokes to Penny and Wilbur,

Jackie, Angel Abby & MBBunny Rita's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Thank you! Yes them giving us laughs is meaning so much. You can feel a little depressed and then suddenly the dog or other pet makes you laugh and give you a better day. Our guinea pigs are sooo funny aswell. The way they talk, and interact with each other and sometimes the youngest just jump right up in the air. Crazy smiley, ha ha!

Penny you sound like my kinda gal!

I'm glad your momma shared your story with us. My Mom is now hopeful that my craziness will mellow out someday, and is now trying to convince my dad that we need a Wilbur in our life too!

How about some pics of you two?

Wyatt Ray , I think that is a brilliant idea!  We used to hate leaving our first baby alone so when he went to the Bridge, we made a vow that from that point forward "if we want one, we get two" and we did.  Looking back, I can't imagine Zeus and Merlin not being together!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Thanks for sharing some of Penny and Wilbur's antics. I also love the car story.  There is nothing like dogs (or any pets) and their love of life to help us forget all of our trivial human worries.

I agree with Wyatt Ray , how about some pics???

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
