What a fun thing to do!
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
OMD!!!! 🙂 GOOOOOOD BOY NOVAK!!!!! 🙂 GOOOOOOD BOY!!! 🙂 Clapping madly for yiu!!! Standing ovation!!
This is sooooo much fun to watch!! You and Novak are such a bonded pair...so much love shared between the two of you! And you are having fun and living life to the fullest!! YAY!! 🙂
That was a lot of fast paced exercise for Novak with a lot of short bursts of speed and quickly slowing down between each "box". I can see why it would be easy for his back leg to give way. It's not like he was taking a leisurely walk and stopping to smell the roses!
Novak is truly a SUPER STAR here!! A video like this gives such hope to anyone wondering if a dog can handle life on three legs...HAPPILY on tnree legs!! 🙂
Novak is a mighty handsome athlete! Such a good looking boy!
Thank you soooooo much for sharing the adventures of you and Novak! We are thoroughly enjoying all the magical times you two are creating!
Love!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Hey everyone! Did an awesome practice today, I worked on Novak's reactivness and he was excellent! We added an odor(pine), he can smell it, but he's not giving me his alert(down) yet. A friend saw the video and noticed that Novak back leg was giving in a lot. I didnt do my exercises the few past days, and it shows, but the turf is slippery and he was overexcited, jumping and he seem to have more problem in the turns. What do you think? And the F**** leash! LOL I cant seem to have a rythm with him now that hes on 3.
BRAVO! I love his enthusiasm (and yours too!). Novak has cheerleaders here as well, what a smart doggie!
I didn't see his leg dip too often, so not too bad in my non-vet opinion. When you do his exercises, are you rotating muscle groups throughout the week? I just read recently that if you focus too much on one muscle group, it will over-work the area and cause fatigue rather than strengthening.

HI everyone! I hope you are having an amazing time at the tripawds party! I wanted to show you our last trial! He did the last novice leg so he got his title. We tried the advance and he did only get 1/3 but did an amazing job! But the funny part was the judge, at our 4th search, he said to me, oh I thought he was limping, but no, he's missing a leg LOLOL he didn't notice before! How can you miss it? LOLOL
Novice containers
Advance containers, he did miss that one LOL theres 2 odors to find and one distration(treats) he layed down on the treats LOL But he did that in practice, need more training, but wanted to try anyway.
Advance exterior
What fun to come back after the long weekend and see what you've been up to. Bravo! Novak, you are growing so fast in this sport, it's a joy to watch you get better and better! The joy in your voice says it all my friend, congratulations!

Good job Novak!
I've been taking Nose Work classes with Elly since January- she loves it and is getting better all the time and I am getting better at reading her. We are still sometimes pairing treats with odor so I bet Elly would stop at the distraction too!
Elly did pass a mock ORT at the end of our last class, but we are not ready to compete yet.
