Hi Everyone,

I joined this community back in 2012 when my dog was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and we made the decision to amputate his leg. He lived for almost an entire year after, happy and pain free. Unfortunately we had to goodbye to him in 2013 when the cancer took over his body.

I am writing today in the hopes that someone can help me with a brace. I currently have a three-legged goat named Trippy. He was rescued from an abuse/neglect situation in 2014. He spent 2 years at a sanctuary before he came home with me in March. In July he developed a nasty infection in one of his front legs that has effected the joint. His doctor feels that a soft brace, where he could bend his knee but would still hold the joint in place, could really help him. Does anyone have something like this that might work?

Hey there! Oh my gosh, thanks for thinking of us. I'm sorry to hear that Rosco earned his wings, but wow, almost a year at age 14 is incredible. I had to share the video you posted way back, it's so awesome:

About your Tripawd goat...WOW! You need to write a Tripawd Tuesday story for us, we'd love to spotlight Trippy!

I don't have a brace but there's no shortage of people who make them. Have you consulted with OrthoPets? They are our #1 source and highly recommended by ortho vets around the globe.

That's wonderful! I have a suggestion for who you might contact - there's a woman near me who has started rescuing special needs goats and she has several (3 or more) tripods, as well as others who have other leg deformaties from injury or infection. You can see a video of two of her goats here - one has two front leg braces and another is in a cart - and her website is here. Her vet has a lot of clever ideas for treating leg issues and might have suggestions - look at her instagram for how they use pool noodles as temporary leg braces.

I almost forgot that I posted that video of Rosco! He really didn't let anything get him down and I can honestly say that deciding to amputate his leg was one of the best decisions we ever made. A big part of that decision was the support we found here and really cannot thank this community enough.

Trippy loves being the center of attention so I'm sure he wouldn't object to a Tripawd Tuesday storybig-blink

OMG ... I love baby goats!!!!  That is a great site. I don't have any tips on how to help your Trippy but sending good wishes your way!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
