So I was out w/my BFF last night and we were talking about how ODD it was that Jasper would growl at her and her son in my home last weekend... then it clicked. Jasper has had (at least) three homes that we know of in her short life, the hoarding house, the rescue and now my home. God only knows where she was before she went to the hoarding house. So it is quite possible that she never fully relaxes since she doesn't know how long she will be in one place and most likely, someone has come in to what she "thinks" is her home and has removed her! So she probably thinks if people come into our small apt, she's going to get taken away.
Poor little baby! I cannot even imagine her fear. As I sit here and watch her destroy tons of toys (yup, Lori, fluff and guts all over the place) and keep all her babies close... it breaks and warms my heart. EVERY dog deserves a home where they feel safe, secure and adored. So I know we can work on this (because after she growls or barks she hides in her crate very submissive).
Because when we walk, she's perfect w/other dogs (no lunging or aggression).
Jasper made her FB debut this week to such warmth and love from my social world! I knew they would love her but I didn't expect all the lovely messages of support about how Jasper 'scored' and is in for the 'best years of her life' and how they acknowledged that Jasper has a beautiful big sister up in heaven that is watching over her. Jasper may have some big paws to fill BUT she's working on it...
And seriously - everyone wants to meet her w/their pups so I suspect Jasper will have a more active social life than me! Ahhh... it's a dog's life!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

OH ALISON!!! Shelby knew Jasper NEEDED you and you NEEDED her,! Shelby knew no one would understand her like you do! To think how u.uncertain she must feel about being taken out of another home....the ONLY.REAL HOME she's ever known! How awful, jist awful.
I'm so glad Jasper Lily got such.a.warm fb welcome and you got.the validation of.how.this was "meant to be" .....Shelby knew exactly what she was doing. To think how badly.she.wanted.Jasper to feel loved a.d to have.a.real home and to have stuffies....what a loving soul that Shelby is.

Of course Jasper is unsure if this is her furever home....she has had so many changes in her life. And the crate - her ultimate hideaway 
I'm so glad that Jasper has been embraced by all your friends - and the kind words about what a wonderful pawrent you are - absolutely accurate of course.
So glad that Shelby Lynne brought Jasper Lily to you - it is truly a blessing that you have each other!

I agree she could be thinking someone is coming to get her. But still try to have more people come over to help her with thinking she is going to leave when a stranger comes the house. Doing a good job though

Oh Jasper did you ever score! Big time! Alison, she will get there. It is still so new. She will soon realize that she has her 4 ever home. Oh, and when I visited the doggie hotel , yes, I took them out so they would remember. It has been awhile and she had these really cool homemade toys. You just take fleec, like you make those blankets out of, cut it into long strips and braid it in a long rope. I did 6 strips and braided it to make it thicker. Viola, cheap toy, no stuffing and Lucy loves it. She tosses it in the air. They can play tug and it is still soft and snuggly. Love from, Lori and Ty
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
that's a great idea, Lori! I will make one for her. She likes the super soft toys (it appears). It's so amazing to watch her figure out and play with her favorites. To me, they all look/sound the same but there are definitely a few that she prefers and goes to. I worry when those are officially 'dead' or destroyed! She's cute how she takes the little ears/tails/noses off ... she doesn't go full on bat crazy w/them like Shelby did.
She has a new bag of chews coming this week that I ordered off Amazon at Katy's suggestion via the Tripawds Amazon link. I ordered three bags of mixed chews so I hope she really likes them! 🙂
Oh and I was watching my neighbor's two cats yesterday. I walked into their apt, cared for them and walked out - maybe 5 min and boom - penny on their mat. It was absolutely NOT there when I went in. I would have noticed it. I just know that was from Shelby ... telling me all was OK. So perfect Saturday ... home, with some wine and the spirit of my best girl and little Jasper Lily snuggling on the couch.

Alison, as usual, everyone else said everything so well, I don't have to add too much......I do agree also, that little Jasper "scored" big time with you as her mom......and this whole situation will fix itself over time, I believe, once Jasper is much more secure in her surroundings and with you as her pack leader. I was also thinking, because of her insecurity, she may be a little protective of her "space", which kind of coincides with not having a secure home previously. You and her together can overcome this, and any other problems along the way, of that I am sure.
So very happy also, for all the love and warmth you got from all your fb friends, but how could they not ?! We ALL know the love and dedication you give your fur children, and Jasper will be one of the luckiest pups ever!

AND I just got home from errands, working out and Jasper was eager to go outside. So eager she tinkled (brat - she gets spooked). As I bent over to clean it up, I saw a single purple sequin. It was not there before. It was not mine (I know all my bling). And I am sure it didn't come out of or off of Jasper! It was Shelby ... reminding me she's still with me, she's proud of me for not yelling at Jasper (I don't really yell but I cuss in general) and that she is still my first and only princess!!!
It's been a great weekend of 'signs' from Shelby and as a result, I think I have been able to give Jasper a little bit more of my heart ... not all but more.

Jasper has one hell of a guardian angel.. and you know Shelby has been whispering in her ear! I know that Franklin whispers in Wilsons.. too many things happening that are just too dang similar... Knowing Franklin.. he is probably saying.. "ppssst.. hey.. let's mess with mom's head.. next time you sleep.. put yer paw over your nose.. " lol cheeky bugger...

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. I knew you would get a kick out of this, Christine! Yup... Jasper is slowly making me feel a bit more whole and I feel Shelby guiding her... she is starting to do some bat crazy things like Shelby which really makes me wonder if all the time I thought Shelby was psycho-mutt, that in reality, I'm the crazy one!
Jasper and I played this a.m. and while that may not seem like a big deal, Jasper rarely plays WITH me. She plays great with other dogs but with me, she usually cowers when I try and engage her in play ... but today, we tossed the toys around, played a soft game of tug-of-war (I let her win) and then had cuddles! Because with Shelby it was snuggles so with Jasper it will be cuddles!!! I still have my wall pretty far up but she's working on breaking me...
