….but I am SO angry!!!! On one hand, stories like this make me feel like we're going to hell in a hand basket. Whoever is responsible for this, well it's best I keep my feelings about that to myself.  On the other hand, the events that occured to save this dog's life are both amazing and inspiring.  Hug your babies today….

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

It is a heartbreaking story, but you are right, there were a lot of folks who stepped up to help this poor little guy. How anyone could intentionally neglect an animal is beyond my comprehension.

Heal quickly Patrick.  You have love behind you now.

you are absolutely right to have posted it , because while the level of depravity has increased a hundred fold in our increasingly pathetic world - there are still good and caring people out here, and exposure is the way to fight this kind of evil, not hiding it away. Thanks for sharing this story! And definitely, hugs to our furkids!

Unbelievable. To see this in our country in which there are shelters that will take in animals is unspeakable. My heart hurts badly when I see cruelty.

It is beyond me how someone can mistreat an animal that wants only to make us happy.  If we were more "dog" the world would be a whole lot better.

Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.

I am working up my nerve to watch it.  Just the beginning frame makes me angry.  I don't know how anyone can do this.  I'm giving myself some time before watching it because I am still in a rage over a bad experience at the dog park today.  I don't get why people are so inconsiderate, but I guess inconsiderate is a stellar personality trait compared to the apathy and downright cruelty exhibited by the person(s) who did this.

Just read Sadie's link.  The maximum penalty is not enough for this woman.  No reason to treat a dog like this.  Take it to a shelter.

In your heart, where I belong.

My name is Dakota and I am a survivor like Patrick. When my people found me, I looked very much like Patrick. I was about 5 or 6 months old, and as an adult I was destined to weigh 80-83 pounds. But at 5 or 6 months old, I weighed only 12 pounds.

When I was found, I was very sick and about to die from dehydration and malnutrition. I was lucky because my family were on vacation and took a wrong turn.
They saw me, and my Man stopped the car when I walked out the brush and
into the road. I say I am alive because someone stopped their car.

My Woman sat in the road with me in her lap and cried. I thought she would never stop crying. But when I see Patrick, I think I understand her tears.

I went to a vet on the way to my new home and got some care. Once I was home, I had to be fed 6 times a day because I was too weak to eat more than a couple of spoons of food at a time. People sat beside me and put bits of food into my mouth. They dribbled water into my mouth, too.

After living with my new family for 2 weeks, I doubled my weight, minus a pound. I went from 12 to 23 pounds in 14 days. And it was hard work, but I wanted to survive. I had many, many v-e-t visits, and they were painful. But I endured.

Now I am a cancer survivor. I have 3 legs. I don't care. I am the real Survivorman.

When I look at Patrick, I see myself. If I can do it, so can he.

Love to Patrick, from Dakota

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

OMG, Dakota - did you find the very best forever home.  It makes me cry just to think about it.  Here's hoping Patrick will be so lucky.

God bless your family!

I live right near Newark, unfortunately.  Sounds basically like a drug addict had a dog and was too strung out to feed it.  The treatment of the dog sadly wasn't a huge surprise.  That it survived did.

Dakota, we knew you were special but we just didn't know how special. You have the best people in the whole wide world, too.

I'm giving my "found wandering the streets" little boys an extra hug and kiss because you remind us how special it is to have the dogs that were unwanted by their first people.

Shoot, Dakota ain't that special. He is an awful food thief, and I mean awful. Even I don't steal like he does.

Now Patrick, he will go far. I can tell. He has a will to live and he will be adored by whatever family is lucky enough to invite him in. If you tell me who did this to Patrick, I will bite them in the privates. Remember, I'm a bulldog. I was made for latching on, shaking hard, digging in with my back legs and not letting go. Ever.

You know, our family's ok, but damn is my mama strict! There are so many things she has made me stop doing, like clawing those holes in the drywall and peeing on Dakota's bed. So I don't think these people are that great.

Thank Dog for the good people in this world. You make this world a better place for dawgs like us.
