Yesterday we had a Clambake in our backyard for our son's 30th birthday with ~35 guests.  Uncle Andy was wearing sunglasses -- as do many people on a sunny Saturday afternoon.  Milo was wearing his Rufwear Harness because our deck has lots of steps, and it was crowded and busy and he's new to this Tripawd business.  One of the guests thought Milo the Tripawd was Uncle Andy's service dog, and figured Uncle Andy must be blind.  She said she had been ignoring Milo because "that's what you're supposed to do for service dogs."  Poor Milo -- she had an awesome plate of food right in front of him and he couldn't get a peep  of attention out of her!

It was Day 16 since the amputation, and Milo is a curly-haired dog.  He still looks like he was recently run over by a lawnmower with big shaven spots from the amputation, a 4"x4" shaven spot for his fentanyl patch, the shaven abdomen for the ultrasound, and spots on his legs from the IVs over the past few weeks.  And the 18" scar down the whole front of his body!  Definitely not the typical service dog look!

Of course, we thoroughly enjoyed calling Uncle Andy "Blind Andy" the rest of the day, especially after he'd make a bad throw in a lawn game!

Meanwhile, we were all happy to have Milo being Milo.  A bit slow and tired in the heat, but hopping about now and then to visit guests, watch lawn games, sneak pieces of cheese from my best friend.  It's a dog's life!

Too cute!

In Oklahoma, there's not an actual standard certification for service or assistance dogs.  Mikey may actually get some training for me (disabled, chronic pain since an accident in '03).  It would certainly make travel easier!

Mikey & Jo (and 9yo Pumpkin, the cat who just wants to cuddle and ignore the puppy)

Mikey, 2/14/16, came to us as a foster the end of June, 2wks after rear left amp. Now, at 6mo, he's doing awesome! Perfect, except for wanting to play with 9yo kitty Pumpkin, who isn't interested.  At all.

Love to all! Jo, Mikey and, reluctantly, Pumpkin.

We were at Ft Stevens State Park in Oregon the summer after Murphy had his amp and THR. Since we were going to be walking around quite a bit, he was wearing his harness. When we asked if we could bring the dogs inside the fort area, they told us it was OK as long as we didn't go into the buildings. It took her quite a while to notice that the reason Murph was wearing the harness was because he was a Tripawd. She thought he was a service dog, too.

Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Poor Milo!  I can just picture him bouncing around, looking pitiful at everyone and they're all just ignoring him!  what-ever

I have to admit, that's never happened to Murphy!  lol

Now THAT is a great story!

Yep, we get the service dog comment quite a bit whenever Wyatt Ray is wearing his Webmaster, or when Jerry was. Our reply is simply "No but he's OUR service dawg!"

Isn't it funny how the harnesses elicit a certain amount of respect?  People definitely see the harness before they see the missing leg.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Love this!!!!

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
