Oh and also, forgot to add. I've ordered the Embark test for Meg. I hadn't heard of this one before, so thanks for the tip. Her bone condition is almost certainly genetic, but it will be really interesting and potentially useful to have more genetic information. Can't wait to learn Gator's results.
Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, November 2023, adopted January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Elsie Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
I can't remember if you've said.....do you take him for a lot of car rides? Thinking about the transport rides it took him to get to you, I was wondering if he's ridden with you, and realizes he's still coming home with you. That would be a small step before actually leaving him at day care. I've never had a rescue, and so have never dealt with these problems. One day at a time, and soon he will KNOW he's never leaving.
Paula and Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

We have gone to a couple of pet shops, and of course the vet. Taking him to daycare will be in preparation for when I really do have to travel and he will have to go to an overnight care place. I had this same problem with Otis. He was terrified first time I left him at daycare.

Turns out that what Gator needed was "jingles" of his own. I had ordered a collar from Silverfoot, the same brand Otis and Tess wore, but in a different color and pattern. I had been holding off on putting his Village license, nametag and Tripawds charm on until the new collar came. It got here yesterday. He is so happy! I think he missed having jingles. Maybe that is part of what he equates with home and family?
By the way, we are going to try day care today. I know it will be stressful for him, but I also know that being picked up again at the end of the day will help him realize that he will never be left. We went through something similar with Otis, who ultimately grew to love day care.

If you Facebook, check out the page for The Barker Shop. There is a picture of Gator, who is apparently doing really well on his first day!

Is that him, with the blue-ish collar? Looks like he's having a ball!

He will be ecstatic to see you when you come for him. Daycare will be the best of both worlds...others to play with and his Mom to come get him at the end of the day. How nice that you can see pictures of him on their FB site.
We have never taken Ollie to daycare. He does fine at the dog park, but he is definitely an equal opportunity humper. Not sure how that would go over in a daycare setting.
Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Oh gosh! So much to catch up on!!
To digress a bit, and to ramble a bit, I think we love every dog that comes into our lives for diffent reasons based on who they are and how they find their own space in our hearts. And we also.love them for some of the same reasons we love our other dogs who have etched out a permanent cor er of our hearts. We had so much "history" with our Spirit Beings, so the depth of love may, or may not, feel ddifferent at first. It doesn't mean itsw "less", it just means it hasn't devloped the same depth of a variety of experiences and adve tures yet.
And then you have your own personal "history" before your new pup comes into your life. And you, my dear Christine, are to be commended for bringing another dog in need of love into your life in spite of the horrific grief you were dealing with (and stll are). That was a huge LEAP OF FAITH and trust that it was meant ro be...and it surely was!!
I see you've posted a blog update on Gator's firstday at Day Care! Can't wait to see how it went!!
I love that he now has some jingles all his own!

Gator did great at daycare. The staff loved him, and said that he was obviously well socialized. The sad thing, he didn't recognize me when I came to get him. In fact, he spent the car ride home intently sniffing my hair, almost as if he was trying to determine whether I was the same person. Definitely says something about what he has been through. After dinner, however, he brought me his stuffed alligator to play, so I hope he is realizing that this is his home.

Ohhh man....this is really pulling at my heart strings! He probably thought, "Here we go again. This is just my Foster Mom and she's been part of the transport crew all along!"
I think this was a huge step in assuring him this is his furever home! Inloooove that he brought you his alligator tomplay with! He just seems like THE sweetest Soul!
WELCOME HOME..AGAIN GATOR!!

Awww, so bittersweet. Baby steps for Gator. Once he realizes you're his fur-ever mom, how precious will that moment be? I love that he brought his alligator toy to you to play with. I believe he's starting to understand he's not going anywhere; and how great that he had a good time at daycare. That's the most important thing here, that being there doesn't stress him out.
