Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

clapYeah!clap

I'm so happy that he's fitting in with you so well.  He sounds like a doll!  Don't you just wish he could tell you his story?  I wonder if he's clicker trained?  I've never used one, but a lot of people do....and since he's not food motivated....

Hugs to you & your daughter

When I stop to think about it, Ollie wasn't very food motivated when he first came to us. For the first few weeks, we had to coax him to eat, sometimes even mixing a bit of canned food and water to make gravy in his kibble. A far cry from the Hoover he has become!

There was a time, ok almost 2 years ago before Tess tore her cruciate, when I could look at a dog walking and just see a dog walking.  Now, I find myself hyper analyzing every step for possible unevenness.  Ugh.  And Gator squeaks when he wants something - to go outdoors, to play, or just attention.  And I, of course, immediately think he is in pain.  I have really got to dial down this part of my brain!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Christine, if you ever figure out how to dial your brain down, please let me know how! I think that ship has sailed for me forever.

I suspect Nitro will keep you on your toes, but there is no reason for me to be scrutinizing Gator's every breath for signs of who knows what.smiley

I wish I could say that passes but Jasper's been with me 2 1/2 years and I still treat her like she's wrapped in bubble wrap. But it does get better. I let her get in the car mostly on her own (she goes low so it's safe) and I let her run at the dog park but I cringe each time she rolls hard or tumbles. I fear this is my new reality - "helicopter dog mom"! But she has a great life and so did Shelby so I know I do the best that I can!!!! Hugs!  You're doing great and all this is totally normal.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Tee-hee-hee.  I video taped a sleeping 11 week old puppy because I was worried her breathing was too rapid and shallow.  If you figure out the "dial down knob", please share!
