Yeah, I can only imagine that Meg thinks she's at an all night fox chasing pawty 🙂
Soooo relieved Elsie is starting to settle down some! Poor baby! She probably felt like she was on a Doggy LSD trip! Geez, now she'll have to deal with the tooth (or lack thereof) pain.
Well, not much sleep for you tonight. When you get home tomorrow though, take a loooong hot bubble bath and wrap up in a cozy robe and go to bed early.
And doze off peacefully with sweet dreams about the Virginia Pawty....and Frankie howling in your ear all night long 🙂 🙂 🙂
Lots of love!!

Yikes this thread happened really fast. I'm so glad Elsie Pie is home and settling down some. Poor girl! But yeah, a bad tooth isn't the worst news we can get. Glad it was just that, but Elsie Pie probably isn't convinced right?
Hope you got some sleep!

From my personal experience only (lots of teeth issues with two dogs and three cats), this sounds like meds. (And tramadol is also an opioid, so I would avoid it as well). We never had pain symptoms severe enough to cause missed sleep). Hopefully the dose should be wearing off by now, and you will be able to see if she truly is in pain. And then you can drag your tired self off to work, while Elsie sleeps the day away.

Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

You people are the best! Thanks so much for all your support. Pie is still pretty out of it, but much less vocal now and more settled. I'm sure things will continue to improve from here, and at least she's shot of that painful tooth. I am SHATTERED, just praying for a second wind or, failing that, a triple espresso...

OH Pie did you keep Mama up all night? Well.......sleep it off today sweet girl and dream of the soft foods you'll get for your "owie" mouth. Hope you were able to navigate your day Clare without too much of a problem. That sweet face though.....who wouldn't melt into those soulful eyes?
Large Expresso Frappaccino with Whip Cream every three hours not to exceed four in a twelve hour period! Side effects are minimal. Some find a need to run a marathon.....all night long 🙂
Such a bummer that Elsie Pie still has some residual symptons. All paws crossed that she is back to her normal Elsie Pie self when you come home. Perhaps Meg will dose her with some whip cream for lunch to soothe her oowwie!
Lots of love

PS. Look forward to more cute pictures of her sweet mug!

That sweet face .... glad to hear she is finally settling a bit ... those sleepless nights are killer for sure. I am not the spring chicken I used to be and I do not do well on little sleep... cranky, snarky, and all around off. BUT hopefully you'll get some good rest tonight Mama!
Hugs!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Elsie has the cutest face! Sorry, Meg, but today is all about Elsie day!

I hope you're doing better by now! Sorry I missed this. I could have told you that Manni's first anesthesia ever was like that. It was a nightmare and he was so scared. I ended being on the floor with him all night. Since then I always say that to the vets if we have to have anesthesia. One vet told me that it must have been the Ketamine (?).
So if Elsie Pie has to have another tooth pulled or something remember to let them know I guess.
Hioe you got to catch up on some sleep ! T

The Pie is definitely more Pie today but she is still not entirely herself. She's no longer whimpering, which she was sporadically throughout yesterday (though nothing like during that first night). Again, I don't think this was pain; she seemed just slightly disorientated, bewildered Pie, and very clingy. I didn't leave her alone, a neighbour very kindly sat with her for me when I had to be out. I think now she is basically hungover. She is also on two different antibiotics, which must be having an effect. I had imagined she would wake up in the morning and be fully back, but it seems it's just going to be more gradual than that.
The one thing which has cheered her enormously was hearing all your lovely comments. I read them out to her, and she went all bashful and pleased. Hey Mum, she kept saying, I've forgotten.... What was it Christine said again? And Auntie Linda? And Alison? Did Holly really say I was the cutest of Pies? Remind me, Mum, what was it Auntie Sally said, sweet mug, that was it, that's right, sweet mug, do you think it's true Mum? Do you think I do have a sweet mug?...

Thanks for that, Tina. The weird thing is that Elsie has had several anaesthetics (she had a lot of problems when she was very young), and she must have had opioid painkillers but she's never reacted like that. I am seeing the vet on Friday for a check up and will check with them exactly what she had, and make sure it's flagged up in her notes never to give her that again. It just slightly worries me because Billie had had opioids too and always been absolutely fine. Her extreme reaction was due to the changes in her brain caused by the tumour. She was pretty much exactly the same age as Elsie now. Trying not to think about that. There must be other reasons why a dog would respond differently at different times.
